What are your goals for 2024?

I thought it was a great idea last year so let's do it again.

My goals for the year:

Reach 350w for 20 min

Reach +1300w peak and +1200w 5 sec

Do at least 700w for 1 min

----------

Methodology:

I will try to not let my holidays in July derail my training completely = do at least 40h in July and no week with less than 3 activities of at least an hour each.

Going away from just a mileage goal to more time on the bike. I'd like to be more consistent with training and try to hit 10 hours a week all year. For the past few years I've been around 6-8 with some bigger weeks here and there, but nothing consistent. I think my fitness will benefit from the extra time in saddle.

Racing wise, I'd like to race 20 races this year and try to get my upgrade to cat 2 on both road and CX. I have some tentative plans to do all my local races plus a few trips. My big goal is Intelligentsia in/around Chicago. If I could get 5 or 6 of those races I'd be happy. Then hoping to finally race Green Mountain Stage Race in VT.

Maintain consistency with training and diet is my goal for 2024. I want to do at least 4 days (preferably 5) of cardio and 2 days of strength training per week. But at the end of the day, you can't out exercise a bad diet.

No longer chasing performance, and just going out to enjoy riding the bike; a form of 'slow cycling' - I didn't continue my Strava subscription.

1) Not to buy more bikes. I am pretty saturated with road bike, but I am wondering if i shall try some other MTB :D

After a short timeframe without premium I purchased strava premium once more before the end of the year 2023, when there was a discount 30 eur / year, which is finally acceptable price for me...

2) So maybe get some more KOMs on local segments.

Same! Also I want to equally spend more time training with consistency and get to 340w while also enjoying myself more on the bike, riding in different places and countries around me (EU based).

It's not a week into 2024 and I've got 2 new bikes. Though both have been a long time coming and have no plans for other new ones.

Tell me about that. I am thinking about getting rid of mtb and get gravel bike instead.

1. Last year I was pretty consistent all year round and ended up quick enough. Hoping to do the same this year and keep consistent each week.

2. I dropped 7kg last year, but put some on in the last few months, and I'm hoping to drop down to ~61kg. I'm only 166cm tall so that seems reasonable.

3. Do some road racing this summer. Took a pause due to money and starting a family but the kids are older and my current job pays well enough I can afford it again.

4. Focus more on TT performance. I'm a small punchy rider but would love to be better at just going to the front and grinding those on my wheel into dust.

5. Side quest of running a 5k under 20 minutes and a 10k under 40. Not crucial as I only run once a week but would be sweet.

I'm starting my build soon. I took 8 months off last year after a 2000 mile, state to state move. My new town has a dead bike club and zero bike scene so I didn't have a lot of motivation to train. I'm determined to start a bike club in my town.

I did find that we have 5 gran fondos within a couple hours of my house so I'm determined to train for one or all of them. At 57 years old, I'm not going to podium anything but now, after a base block with some VO2, my FTP is within 10 watts of my all time high from two years ago. I figure I'm going to make an all time high, no problem after build. I gained 20-30 watts last time I did a build cycle.

That's it:

start a bike club and reinvorate the local group ride scene
get as fit as possible and break my all time high FTP (only counting last 10 years)
race some gran fondos and see how I do

2023 was my first year on the bike after a looooooong time away from not only bikes, but anything fitness related at all. January 2023 I was 91 kg with an FTP of 240 watts. End of November 2023 I was 79 kg with an FTP of 355 watts. About the progress I had expected, unfortunately I didn't have any more time to put towards training so that was all I could manage. Hoping to be able to put a few more hours into training this year.

Goals for 2024:

5.0 w/kg FTP (390-400 watts) by end of season
Complete the Hoodoo 500 race in August, solo unsupported
Win the 24-hour World Time Trial Championships in November
