Hello,
I ride single chainring 42 and rear cassette 12-27.
42-27 is sometime really difficult to ride difficult part.
I come from road and like very high cadence over 90 rpm and I am not as powerful as other runner I prefer very small bracket. With 39-27 or 39-25 it will be sure to ride every part of a circuit.
I will try double chainring but wich chainring, between 39 and 44 there is not a big difference so I think about a 39-46 chainring.
But what pro use to and why not you use to ???
Thanks for your help and remarks.
romano
Wich bracket pro use to ???

Thanks for your number
I tried 39-44 this morning,
I will experiment 46 nextly but in fact change front speed is the same ratio than changing the rear speed cause 39-16 = 44-17. but not perfect to ride very fast race.
Bye.

Romano;
there is no pro with 50, i can tell you that. francis mourey is the only one at the moment with 48 t chainring, but he doesn't seem to care much about his setup. all the other ones have 46 big ring, with 39 or 42 inner ring, also riders like verwecken and nys with long legs.

Depends on the terrain, obviously, but sometimes it is better to sacrifice top end.
It is sort of nice to have a close gearing in the chainrings; your derailleur will run more snugly if the chain is set properly, and less slop and risk of derailling.
