Is it ever okay to wear team kit?

Teams (well mostly sponsors) want you to wear their jersey. Imagine if no kids ever bought their favourite hockey, or football, etc... team jersey to go out and play "pro" ?
That's the way to go kids .
Personally, I'd never wear one though...

Wear what you like. If you aren't "cycling skinny", you may look silly in full team kit.

Why wear kit of a team your not part off. I am not likely to be asked to ride for team inneos so i wont wear there kit. I am a member of the west Suffolk wheelers so I wear there kit. I am not a member of cycle club sudbury and dont wear there kit. Simples really.

Parents would be alot richer if there kids did not wear team jerseys. You get to wear a player's strip if your that player, otherwise why. Really just because you can does not mean you should.waste of money if you ask me.
I think it only becomes a thing when you're riding in competitive clubs or local racing scene. Enthusiasts might roll their eyes at rainbow or significant jerseys. Likely due to the fact that there is a respect for what it takes to obtain them and reach that level.. which most club riders are not anywhere near.
Team wear is kind of the same thing. We're not pro, so don't dress like the pros. Expensive, good kit is one thing, but replica is another.
I know I'd feel a bit embarrassed turning up to a club ride in replica kit. I bought some Castelli Sky mesh vests for under the jersey, purely for the fact they were going very cheap. They only have a discreet Sky on the chest but I make sure the Jersey is zipped up so not visable in a club / race ride!
The weekend enthusiast, I don't think replica kit is really an issue. If that is what's got them out on the bike then fair play.

Is that not the ultimate no no... turn up on a Venge wearing Sagan Bora kit with the WC strips! You better have the legs to back it up!!
Not a fan of non-pros wearing pro team kits, you aren't paid for that and in my eyes just look like a dork (wannabe pro) or so. However if you're member of a local club it's fine to wear their kit. I'd also consider ok wearing the Porn Pedallers kit just for kicks.
That kit is so subtle that it doesn't really count. It's the exception to the rule, although it may be a little off if you're not riding a Canyon.okimy wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2019 8:49 pmYou should wear whatever you like. I only got into cycling about two years ago and my first proper kit was a Canyon Sram teamkit because I liked the look. Back then i got the sizing a bit wrong though (too loose) and the padding on the shorts isn't really doing its job anymore. I'll have to get a new set before Brexit.
I think the opposite is true. Other than looking not very good in a form fitting kit in general, it's a clear sign that you realize that you'll never be confused with [Pro rider].
That 300lb guy in the Bora WC jersey...dream big my man, dream big.
Some of you haven't considered that pro teams actually want you to wear their kit and support their team. NFL teams probably sell more kit than the entire budget of the average pro cycling team. this is one area where pro cycling falls short. No long lasting branding - team kit changes all the time - team name changes when the sponsor changes - etc.Not a fan of non-pros wearing pro team kits, you aren't paid for that
Why does anyone think that wearing a pro team jersey is being a "wanna be". Nobody is going to mistake the average joe for being a member of team Sky.
Wear what you want because you think it looks good or to support your favorite team. People in my club mostly wear their club jersey but some guys wear pro team kit and nobody cares.

This whole "no team kit and stick up the ass" attitude is one reason why many new people don't turn up on club(rides) or other events. Cyclists seem not very welcoming to newbies and outsiders.
I am really laughing hard reading this thread, if one person is really a fan of pro cycling, the normal is to buy pro team kits. By the way, I use yet a long sleeve jersey from 2002 Mapei made by Santini in Italy, I think I have used that garment at least 1000 times and like new.
For me the ridicolous is kits with subtle colors like Rapha, Pas Normal, MAAP, etc..., colours without bright, when in real life elegant clothes are not like those colours.
