lightest chain now?
Moderator: robbosmans
Anyone have an update of the lightest chain out there now?
Is it still that PYC SP1101 @227g (116 links) or the new Super record 12 chain @220g (110links)?
(not quite sure how Campy would run on a 11spd though)
Most of the ones below are based on 114 links from what I can find online
Record 11 @239g
DA HG901 @247g
KMC DLC @231g (110 links)
KMC X11 SL @237g
KMC X11 EL @239g

My silver PYC 107+1 out of the box, with sticky manufacturer lube was 219g spot on. I can imagine after degreasing and applying light lube the weight would go down by couple of grams.
Yaban have been making Ti chanis for years. Before 11s era it was the lightest chain out there. But its creazy price is a bit prohibitive. You can get around 5 silver PYCs fot one Ti Yaban.
Super Rercord 210g for 110 lilnks? Maybe if it is weighted on Mt Everest. Ok it has hollow pins, but forget that the chain with solid (not hollow) plates, internal and exteranl can be so light. And no it is not Ti chain.
Now I am waiting for deliver of PYC dlc black. Surely it will not be lighter than silver version, I am more interested in its coating quality.
EDIT
Tipsum, if you look at the plates in the zoom, it says PYC.

Record 12 sp chain should be 220g for 110 links. I think it's OP's misstyping.
Even 220g for 110 links is still on very optymistic side. It is just tad narrower compared to 11s. Have a look at PYC mentioned above, KMC sl series, Yaban sl 110 all of them apart hollow pins have hollow plates. There is no way that a chain with solid plates can weigth the same as fully hollow chains (pins and plates) even they are 11s.
Surely there is much more weight to be saved from hollow plates than from a bit shorter pins, in the case of 12s.

Record 12s chain is 5.15mm width instead of 5.5mm of record 11s or 5.6mm of shimano/KMC 11s chain.
For 11 spd, 5.5mm instead of 5.6mm is the reason why record chain is only 236g with solid plates (weight on scale by r2-bike), while KMC X11 SL TiN with both hollow pins and hollow plates is the same weight.
For 12 spd, campagnolo reduces the width by 6.4%, thus shaving down around 16g is normal.

Both YBN and KMC X11SL chains are 5.5mm at the pins according to my calipers. Only Wippermann, Shimano and SRAM 11spd chains are 5.62mm.
Thanks! using KMC X11 EL at the moment with di2, stuff is new still but its pretty darn quiet.
I'll check out the PYC, maybe I'll try that if I go after the weigh saving, I can always go back to KMC since the X11EL are 'reuseable' quick links.
