SRAM FORCE 1 groupset - swapping 2 FORCE 22 derailleur possible?

Hi,

I'm running a SRAM FORCE 1 groupset with the correponding derailleur (https://r2-bike.com/SRAM-Force-1-Rear-D ... -long-Cage). I've bought a copy of CeramicSpeed cage that will only fit to RED/FORCE 22. Can I swap a FORCE 1 derailleur with a FORCE 22 derailleur (https://r2-bike.com/SRAM-Force-22-Rear-Derailleur) or even a RED 22 derailleur? If not, why? What would be the drawback?

Only drawback is that you lose the clutch function for chain retention. The cable pull ratios are the exact same.

What is the max. tooth cog I can fit with RED/FORCE 22? I'm currently running front 50 and back 11-36 when using the bike as a road bike. But have another set of wheels with 11-42t - too much?

The Sram website will probably tell you max teeth. You'll also lose the narrow-wide pullies that keep a single speed chain on better. I guess you won't need that as much for the road though.

Not sure if the OP's questions merits the discussion on pulley differences.
The OP wants to replace the 1x RD with a 2x RD with the replaced cage. The CS copy cage only fits the 2x RDs. The 1x RD is not being used at all.

Aside from the loss of the cluch, the 2x RD will work fine on smooth surfaces. How often does the chain fall off a 2x setup? 2x pullies work fine with 1x chains. The 1x RD might shift better though.

I've run an 11-36 on a force22 wifli before. My vague memory says I didn't have to swap anything out.
I do recall swapping out the compact front to a 1x and putting an 11-40 in on the back. I have a feeling I swapped in a longer b cage screw to help clear the 40.
Max tooth on this probably has more to do with hanger length than anything.

I ended up putting a force1 rd in anyway. Clutch tension makes the 1x feel far stiffer/harder to shift. The 2x is much smoother.

Wifli (medium cage) rd's are optimized somewhere around 11-30t (~20t difference) cassettes. When you stray from that difference you'll get poorer shifting performance.

Also not all bikes support 36t on wifli. It depends on the length of the derailleur hanger on the frame.

If you switch the cage on the derailleur it's hard to predict what your limit is. It depends on the design of that new cage.
