Second that. How is it possible for the wheels to completely fold like that on a descent and NOT wreck the frame? Doesn’t look like either one will complete a single rotation without hitting the fork/frame

It does not look like there is any damage to the bikes themselves?
after 50m started down hills, front wheel sounds like 'ting~ ting~' and loose control and fall off.
BH frame also cracked(top tube)
rider also injured.

In the absence of an impact, I do not see how such failures can occur. I have little love for tracomp spokes and the likes, as I wrote in my blog a few years back

That said, wheels do not collapse and the photo of the rear clearly shows an impact as the rim cannot simply fold like that

I was there where second rider got accident. I didn't watching it but my friend did. he was right behind second rider.
down hill's slope is very high(above 14%), speed getting up so he tried to brake but rear wheel wobble left and right so he loose control and he flied front side and roll several times.
Thankfully it happend 200-300m after starting down hill.
so besides scratchs and bruises, he got broken left thumb.
How is possible? second rider and I wish to know that. but Amersports still don't respond about it.

That's what most people says at first time they see these pictures.
"maybe he fall off first and a car stepped on rear wheel?"
But sadly besides myself, so many friends were there and witness that it folded by itself.
and there is more cases that mavic wheel which combo of carbon spokes and alloy rim folded like this.
I am actually surprised to see something like this, especially with Mavic products that in my knowledge have some of the of the highest standards and best reputation on the market. I see Mavic not as a very modern and state of the art, but innovative manufacturer with tradition, and once something is out its very decent and especially durable. Other than weight (depending on model and considering price-value ratio) I am not aware and experienced any issues with them whatsoever. Therefore seeing such a high-end product ending up with such fatal failure seems very extraordinary, especially breaking "against" the direction of the spokes while riding.

It is a bit surprising to see a folded wheel on an otherwise perfect bike... surely such catastrophic failure would lead to significant damage to the bike
