Lol I use 80g rotors on my mtb and they work great
I have had the 180mm version of those rotors on my mountainbike and they worked fine, they were getting thin a bit quicker than 'regular' rotors would have but otherwise no problems whatsoever.

I take it it's not so much the weight but rather the saw-blade design that's scary?

I use 66g 160mm rotors. They stop just fine.
