Zipp 454 NSW being hookless and far lighter at 53/58mm than just about any other wheelset is a pretty big selling point.
They're what, about a hundred grams lighter than comparable wheelsets? Great if you can afford it, but given they cost about twice as much that's a big premium

i will still take my CXR 60 to TT/tri event over my other wheels (inc ses 6.7, 8.9, speed 55T, bora 50, bullet 80, zipp 404fc, 808fc)

OP didnt say anything about disc or rim brake.
Some say pour 10ml water out of your bottle to save that last bit of the weight. Sorry, i go one step further, i tend to the rider off my bikes.
n+1...14 last time i checked, but i lost count

He mentioned a 2005 wheel so very likely to be rim brake.

Have some Campagnolo Bora WTO 60mm. Very satisfied with them on flat and mixed terrain, and on climbs the difference in performance vs. low profile climbs is not very relevant (although you feel some difference in descending and in acceleration/out of saddle efforts).

Would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for 60mm wheels.

Mavic CXR with the attachable blades beat everthing on the aero chart I seem to recall. Drawback is 23mm tyres only.

Oh, and they don't sell them anymore!

When did hookless become a selling point?

It reduces rim weight. This is weight weenies, right?

28mm tire on a 28mm wide / 23mm internal rim... must be 30+ mm actual?
Minimum bike categories required in the stable:

What would be more interesting -- and applicable -- is what are the fastest wheels when accounting for frictional losses? You might find the "most aero," but if they come with crap bearings and high-drag seals, they won't be fast, even if they're aero. I can't say I've seen comprehensive testing that accounts for both aero and rotational friction.
If the bearings are in good condition, you would expect frictional losses to be much less significant than aerodynamic ones.
For sure, seals can be high drag, but unless you are a pro, you can't run without them completely. Do we know of any commercial wheelsets that come with non-contact seals?

I bought some old 80mm Lightweights second hand. They withdrew them ages ago because they're an old fashioned shape...no toroid to be seen, just a flat shape. They look beautiful but they're 20mm wide, so I'm stuck with 19mm tyres for ever because of the 105% rule. What if I break the rule with some wide tyres? Do I lose all the aero advantage of the rims? ALL of it??? The rims just become dead weight?
