Hi all

Have often cruised this website for information and ideas, thought it about time I joined.

My 1st attempt at a weight weenie is my Addict SL approx 6kg although made a few changes since the last weigh in.

My next project is an Sl5 S-Works disc, I have an issue with the skewers at the moment, 68gF as standard on the Roval 50’s but can fit a 20g Planet X skewer in there but been told that lightweight skewers have been known to be ’ripped out’ anyone got any advice or experience on this?

As for the SL5 disc, sounds like horseshit regarding through axle's getting ripped out.

How about trying the Specialized flush mount through axles from the Sworks SL6 tarmac disc? Any Spec dealer can get them...

I think the issue is more the fact that they are Planet X rather than the 20 gram weight.......

I’ve always used the Planet X skewers as look great and super light, just been warned that disc skewers need to be a lot sturdier (if that’s even a word lol)

Ah, you are actually talking about QR skewers, not through axles, as per Rich_Ws post.
Yeah, bendy/stretchy light ones on a disc frame, not ideal. That sort of external cam doesn't generate much endload either.
I've experimented with many sorts of skewers on the MTB and keep coming back to either XT or XTR.

Those ones you've pictured, i'd not like bringing myself to a halt, from speed, with discs with them fitted.

Just as I suspected, thanks Matt. I’ll have to suck up all those grams in the interest of safety (not a term used to often lol)
Gonna struggle to get 7kg for the Swerks I reckon, and that’s with the carbon crank arms and new Di2. Might have to quit the beer and lose it off the belly as a very last resort

Not the norm to answer your own questions but after some great advice from here and trawling the net, I think I’ve found an answer.

Enve titanium disc road bike QR Skewers are the lightest I’ve found so far at a claimed weight of 55g a pair! And not badly priced at the same £55.

Can anyone beat that weight & price?
