Final build Wilier Zero.7 SR11 10 POUND BIKE
Moderators: MrCurrieinahurry, maxim809, Moderator Team
Good day all. Well a new year has come, and my 2012 project bike is done. Every year I pick what I think is the best new bike and build it with the best, or most advanced parts I can get my hands on.
2012 Wilier Zero.7 SR11, 2011 Colnago C59 Di2 (11.72lbs), 2010 Time RXR VIP, 2009 Time RXR red, 2008 Pinarello Prince, 2007 Cervelo soloist SL.
This year the goal was a 10 lbs. bike and we came in right at 10.06 pounds , or 4762 grams. We worked very hard to get the bike to this weight. We have a set of THM Calvica cranks with extralite rings ready to go on the bike as soon as the bb386 kit comes out from THM. That alone will cut another 200 grams off the Campy super record 11 cranks.
We did mix cables. We had to use campy for the brakes as the THM fibula would not work with power cordz. We did opt to use the ee brakes with power cordz, but the THM with campy cables was still lighter and better looking.
Wheels are Edge 1.25 with extralite hubs and tufo 160> tires with Recon AL 11-27.
Extralite OC stem, expander and 2 new ultimate cages. MCFK seat post. Zipp SL Ergo bar. Seat, Selle Italia tecknogelogic flow.
The Zero.7 rides very well, and lively. The light weight of the bike creates a hesitant response of uncertainty. However once I get accustom to the feel I am sure I will regain my confidence. I think a set of solid wheels will help in that regard. The bike was surprisingly smooth, not C59 dead smooth, but more road noise was evident. I like a bit of feedback in my ride, it helps to connect me to the road and over all awareness. The C59 lacked that completely, making it a great distance bike or even a bike for one who despises the feel of the tarmac. Could I ride this bike 100+ miles in a day, not sure, will I try, yes?
The loss of almost 1.5lbs was very clear when you pick up the bike. Up hills it was nice and firm when I jumped up to move. But I have to say the C59 also was as firm up hill. Was the weight noticeable when climbing? Not much and I fault that to the wheels being so light that they make the biggest difference on the hills not the bikes weight. You could shed your water bottles and gear, and that would be what it’s like to push a lighter bike up hill. Would you notice that weight loss? Do I like this bike over all the other in the past? Well the unidirectional carbon is not my cup of tea, having a C59 matte black and a Time RXR VIP I have come to love the look of carbon. But the lines of the bike are pure Italian, sexy! I will say thus far, I am a fan, and with the bar being set so high in the past I do think the Zero.7 can become my best bike to date with more time in the saddle. Now I just need Lightweight to ship me my new wheels !!
So here are a few photos. Enjoy!!
Thanks to Jason ( Madcow) for all the bits and parts and Brent at Ride cyclery in Encinitas for working so hard to get the frame.

What do you suggest?

Great looking build!
One question though, why on earth do you go to all that trouble to get the weight down and then kill the ride of an Italian thoroughbred with Tufo hoses?

Amazing frame! Would look better with other wheels (Bora, Fulcrum, LW...)

+1, that bike deserves real tires.

Because you can drop 250g by using tufo tires. You can't actually ride on them, but they are good to weigh your bike with.

My parlee could be sub 5kgs with a set of tufo's, but given ow much i ride it that would be pointless

I understand why but I firmly believe a bike's place icon the road first, scales second.
I ride these wheels, no joke. But when I am doing long rides I pull out my RZR'S with conti 4000. Only about a 200g weight penalty. I am waiting for the new Lightweights, and I have Boras, but with shimano free hub, campy hub is on order. I sold my LW Gen III to much front wobble, so I hope the new set is better.

Thanks a photo says a thousand words, and helps a bunch I hate to re do any grips or runs, but I will look at it and see what is best to clean it up. It is one of the things I dont think about or look at.

Like the bike, but the cabling is atrocious.

I like lightweight....but to a point - in this case using tufo's is counter productive to any fine ride......other than their impact on the scale. My suggestion is don't hesitate to add some grams in the form of some real tubbies. Otherwise it's looking HOT!
