your bikes cost breakdown
Moderator: robbosmans
When people find out I recently bought a new bike the first question they ask is "which brand?" It's hard for me to answer since I spec'd the bike out myself, part by part. Also, most people associate the bike's identity with the frame. But, on my build the frame only represented 20% of the total cost. If I were to answer that question in order of cost, I'd say "Madfiber, Dura-Ace, Stevens Xenon, Ritchey WCS."
Here's the breakdown of % of total cost.
What's your bike's breakdown look like? Keep it in terms of % total cost for easy comparison to everyone else.

That's what you get when you have a cheap aluminium frame with Lightweights...

Vintage Look 291 KG Ti frame, 9spd Dura Ace w Mavic Mektronic, low budget Mavic GP4/ Ultegra/Dura Ace 7403/ straight spokes roubaix wheels, alloy Ritchey bars/ classic Flite saddle.
Wheels are beaters with worn hubs, 1800 grams, Mektronic doesn't work too well, frame is superb.
NOS crankset/ bb.

I was lucky enough to receive some Lew rims, so otherwise wheels would be much more.
My philosophy is if it shifts reliably, the name doesn't matter. Wheels, contact points and frame especially dictate the ride.

And that you don't have Lightweight Obermayer Special Edition Gold wheels.

Lucky to receive Lew rims? Lew? Lucky? How are those holding up? What hubs, spokes/number, etc. are you using? I guess you're not in Egypt.bobbyOCR wrote:I was lucky enough to receive some Lew rims, so otherwise wheels would be much more.
Looks like mine is fairly well distributed:
Frame / fork = 30%
Wheels / Tires = 25%
Groupset = 28%
Components = 17%
This is for:
- Soma Smoothie frame / Whisky Parts No. 7 full carbon fork
- Ambrosio Nemesis rims / Shimano DA hubs / Bontrager Race X-Lite tubulars
- SRAM Rival shifters/RD, Force crankset, Dura Ace FD, TRP 920 brakes and KMC chain
The wheels / tires would have been a substantially larger percentage if I didn't get such a great deal on the DA hubs.
