Racing is a three-dimensional high-speed chess game, involving hundreds of pieces on the board.

I guess it depends.....
For myself I like a 32/34 since I live in the mountains, but that means
climb And descend so...
that 11 comes into play on descents that can be 10-30 miles long.

The cassette is like the mtn 11sp. It will fit on a 10sp freehub which is nice for people who want to upgrade but still have nicer old wheels. My favorite part of the new group by far.

Does it actually say that somewhere?

Did you guys notice that the Di2 Hydraulic Shift levers (ST-R8070) are listed the same exact weight as the dura-ace equivalent (ST-9170) at 360g for the pair? That's according to shimano's own PR new listing specifications. I find that hard to believe that Shimano would make them identical, but if that's true that's very nice - pretty big reduction in size/weight to the ST-R785's

Directly from Shimano. They curve the largest cog out toward the spokes from the carrier so that it will work on an 11sp freehub with a spacer or an older 9/10sp freehub. Just like they do with M7/8/9000 mtb cassettes.

Which cassettes? It can't be all sizes, otherwise they would have just done overhang before. If I recall correctly, 10s already has overhang to fit on 8/9s hubs.

Thought most/some 10 speed actually needed a spacer to fit on a standard 9 speed freehub. Pretty sure non of mine have any overhang.

In fact i'm almost certain it's shimano 11s MTB only with the dished sprocket (until R8000 hits the shelves).

I'm not a fan of the design cues, I don't think it will go well with steel frames for example, or anything else minimal. 6800 had a more functional or classic look, similar to Exage or other older groupsets.

The spider itself provides some overhang because the big cog is riveted under it. The spacer is a way of reducing machining time and billet thickness, otherwise you would have to machine the integrated spacer for that much more thickness instead of just stamping a washer. If you look at the back of a Tiagra 10 cassette the cog is dished, compared to a Sora 9 cassette which is flat.

That's interesting. I know Shimano needs to address frame compatibility issues, but does this mean there might not be a 5900 next year? Maybe just 105 level hydraulic discs?

wonder if the di2 will cope with 32-11 cassette? I have not used di2 yet, does anyone think there would be an issue?
AFAIK in the tube app you input the cassette ratio - does it include an option for 32-11?
