How does this differ from the GP4000 in black, 25mm, which also has the incredible black chilli substance.

The compound in the GP4000S is different to the one in the GP4000.

It's a winter tyre. And a good one - I like mine. If there is an effect based on direction, it's probably about 0.0025% of your effort. Just eat another banana or have another half hour in bed.

(PS why does this remind me of speaker cable debates...)

Actually it isn't. The compound in the GP4000 (black) and the GP4000S is exactly the same. As the GP4000 (black) is available in 25mm presumable the new 4000S is a re-badged version of the same tyre?

Coloured GP4000 tyres are a different matter ...

Yes. The information is on their site IIRC and another member got confirmation directly from Conti.

Note that the GP4000 in black did not used to have black chilli but was changed over a couple of years ago.

The coloured GP4000s are crap.

I just got a pair of 4 seasons and the strange thing is that one had the directional arrow and the other didn't. I looked closely and it's definitely not there on the second tire. The "tread" has a slight slant to it so it does slant slightly backward or foreword.

As a matter of interest which way was directional arrow pointing?

Rehashing this thread as I've just got a new 4 Season and it's got a directional arrow on it.

I put a set of 700c x 28c on my cross bike for winter commuting. I have been using conti tires for years and could not find the directional arrow, so I sent them an email. The response was that it did not matter. I looked at a set of my 4000s and matched the pattern to them. Your pic confirms that as well.

Great winter tires

Awesome! 50/50 chance and I nailed it LOL. I did use 4000S as a guide when I mounted the 4 Seasons but later couldn't remember if I confused myself.

I like them but am also looking forward to pairing season old 23mm 4000S with a new 25mm on the back.

Got a GP24/GP4000S 25mm combo on some A23s right now. Ride really well.

My GP4season (25mm) have a raised rubber directional arrow on the left sidewall (if you mount the tire according to the arrow, that is).
Great coarse/gravel road racing tire, btw.

Mmmm..., directional loudspeaker cables...

I love me GP 4000 S's, esp as I've got a luverly pair of Ultremo ZX HD's maturing nicely in the darkness of me cabinet, either side of a broken plastic hanger bottom. Soon my baby darlings, soon.
