Any noticeable difference between using 28 tires on them and 25 tires on them?

I'm thinking about running 28s on my 5.6 on my venge.

When I put "25mm" tires on my 5.6 Discs, they end up anywhere between 26.5mm (Zipp Tangente Speed RT25) and 29mm (Schwalbe Pro One.) Even though the widest part of the rims are 28 and 28.75mm, the edge of the rim is closer to 27mm. Keep using tires that measure around 27mm if you want the best aero performance. "28mm" tires will all blow up to around 30mm or larger and you won't get proper laminar flow over the rim surface.

Have you ever used 28's on your 5.6 discs? On Enve site they recommend 23-28 for 5.6 disc but optimized for 25s

I have once and felt the difference in aerodynamics immediately. I mainly ride my shallower carbon wheels now with 28s and only occasionally use my 5.6/25mm combo.

You felt the aero difference immediately eh? please do explain.

you hold speed easier... also with the right wind you get a sail effect. Yeah you can feel it immediately versus shallow wheels.

I've run 25/25 and 28/28. .. currently 25/28 and the difference is minimal to me on my 5.6 disc

My bad. I read the comment wrong. I thought he meant he noticed the aero difference on the 5.6 going from a 28mm tire to a 25mm tire.

But that is what I meant. The 28mm tire in front negated the depth of the 5.6. I noticed it in the ever-present crosswinds on Cañada when there was less of a rudder effect in those conditions.

alrighty then... I'm on 25/28 now mainly because 28 is too ballonish in the front. Always windy east bay rider here and cant say for certain I get more sail with the 25s just yet. Last descent down DelValle was nice and easy at 39.x mph.

I didn't say sail. I said rudder. The 5.6s are pretty average in terms of getting jerked around in crosswinds, at least when compared to my 7.8s which should perform far worse, but seemingly don't. 28mm tires (probably measuring almost 30mm) effectively stall the front wheel, making them less susceptible to gusty crosswinds.

I've been running 28's on my 5.6 for well over a year, can't tell any aero difference, and I can't see how one could without doing back to back tests in the same conditions. Ride quality is improved, even more so since going tubeless. Won't be going back to 25's.

This is why I won't outright say 25mm is faster. The speed difference is hard to gauge. But when the rudder effect is missing in sudden gusts, that either means the center of pressure has been fixed by going to a 28mm tire or that it's no longer a concern because the tire/rim combo is no longer an effective wing (aka stalled.)

So if my pea brain is following you correctly, you were NOT getting a rudder effect (i.e. tugging at the steering in crosswinds)? In real world riding, I would consider that to be an improvement, but I can't say I have noticed such things. :noidea:

^. I also have not noticed a difference so far since I moved to 25 in the front from years of using 28. (which measure 30+)

Del Valle where I have experience some nasty tugging before ( On CLX50s w/25 and TCotton 26 and 5000TL 28) the Enve5.6 where very solid with 2020 ProOnes in 25.
