No one can tell you what frame size you need because every manufacturer has its own frame geometry. Giant L sized frames are 21", and Gary Fisher L's are 19". So you don't have to stick to digits. I think that you should look at M or L frames - it depends on your riding style and frame manufacturer. Anyway, there is no better way to choose the right size than to test ride a bike :)

my friend is about your same height and has the 20 inch. the 18 is actually really small.
