A littel project this afternoon.
I made alu-plate for my new Speedplay Zero Stainless, weight save 24gram and this is only for the plate.
The alu-plate are made out of 7075.

I don't think carbons the material for this job at all... Great Job Til. Reasonable material for the purpose.

Quite right. Fibre-Lyte did a set of butterflys for a customers show bike, but in reality, in use, they'd last about......
these butterflies initially where an Idea of forum member Superlite (what happened to him in the last year?). I've got them (138 gramms for the Ti pedals) and they last over a year of use (4000 km). Ti of Alu bolds appeared not a good Idea due to the risk of breaking and the small weight gain. Anodisation made the surface too hard and small metall parts where comming off.

I've got some of Superlights inserts also. Never really had a problem with mine, but havn't ridden the pedals with them in a while.

I have about 12000 miles on a set of al plates...I forget who they are made by. They definetely show signs of wear, but I have had no issues coming unclipped, even in sprints. When I switch back to my bike with speedplays with standard plates, you can feel the engagement is more crisp, and tight....basically, the wear in the al plates appear to cause slop in retention, but I have not had an issue with premature release.
The al plates save about as much weight as going from the standard TI speedplays to the new carbon version of the speedplays, and the plates only cost about $50....I think I saw the carbon version of the speedplays at around $500...a $200 premium for about the same 20g savings.
