Thanks Admins for activating my WW account. Been a long time lurker here and after x-years of hiatus, I decided to return to the sport that we all love.
This will be my 1st dibs into the 12s disc brake trend, coming from old bikes:
- Canyon Ultimate CF SLX w/ 1stgen Red eTap and gen4 Meilensteins
- Wilier Cento1SR with mech Campy SR 11 and 303's (just sold yesterday)
It will be an affordable semi-aero build with a select bang for the buck components from far east brands:
- Kanon XR Hayate Edition framekit
- Wheeltop EDS TX Fully Wireless Groupset
- Craft Racing Wheels CRW5060
- Cybrei Crankset
- Farsports Handlebar
- other bits and pieces to keep the bike at a decent weight
Thanks to Panda Podium for the smooth transactions - hope to receive the HB soon so I can now finish the build.
Here's a preview of the frameset (pic from the seller) - more details, actual pics and weights to follow. NO it's not a knock off from aliexpress or taobao or dhgate. It's UCI-approved kit, just comes from the least expected source - a thriving bicycle company in south east asia.

handlebar order is delayed and i got bored, had time to tinker and work on the crankset challenge.
cybrei doesn't offer the spider that i need to run my fave chainrings..so had to source it out and make it fit.
- 5 bolt 110 bcd after market spider (45g) on a cybrei crank assembly (319g 165mm) w/ extralite mid-compact chainrings (100g) & bolts (9g)
473g cranks --- achievement unlocked!
may not be the lightest sub 500g spec'd crankset around , but still a solid sub 500 (excl. bb) at just a fraction of the cost of a thm or other famous brands..
PS: got a note from a reliable source - this particular spider wont fit on frames with bb386evo shell..should be fine on bb86, t47, etc. ..just be aware if you plan to go with the same setup

Wheelset obvious choice is craft racing wheels with black decals matching the black on black frame.
CRW 5060 - 1326g (F:600g R:726g shimano) including lockrings (8g each) and tapes
claimed wt. 1290g - so 16g for the lockrings and 20g prolly for the tapes
paired up with these:
Galfer Discs centerlock - F:98g (160) R:78g (140), included lockring 12g (will not use)
RideNow TPU tube - 20g (65 & 85mm valve same wt.)
Maxxis High Road SL HYPR-S K2 Tire - 170g (25mm), might switch to another tire/tubes and try 28s later

thanks mike..was looking at 5bolt 110bcd spiders from the other brand elilee, same 16T easton but they are more expensive not sure if they'd readily fit..this alu spider is something that wouldn't hurt the wallet if i mess up filing its notch and trash it..

Groupset will be the new EDS-TX Carbon Wireless Electronic Shifter/Derailleur 7-13 speeds with hydraulic disc brakes from Wheeltop - "one groupset to shift them all"
Looks promising on the initial reviews and videos I've seen, just lacking integration with cycling computers right now. Quite heavy but much cheaper than a Force AXS or R8100 Di2 by category, the money I saved from this was spent on other lighter parts to compensate for weight.
Right Shifter - 224g
Left Shifter - 222g
RD - 335g
FD - 188g
Front Caliper - 166g (may not be accurate w/ hydraulic cable uncut)
Rear Caliper - 183g (may not be accurate w/ hydraulic cable uncut)
Small parts:
Flatmount adaptor (160mm) & bolts - 18g
Mounting bolts - F:6g + R:12g
Neutron Cassette 12s - 188g (11-34T shimano w/ lockring, mental grey)
YBN Chain 12s - 254g (126links uncut w/ quick link, black)

The frameset:
Kaze Kanon XR - Hayate Edition Gen 2 (Darkstar Theme)
japanese-thai bike collab (uci-approved japanese design - sold mainly in thailand)
ridden by their nat’l squad and current nat’l champ (Gen 1 - same design, just in silver paint)
semi-aero, mech/electronic ready, T1100 frameset
1/1 in hk
hk has been a haven for all the latest bikes/techs from mainstream as well as the growing popularity of new chinese brands..wanted something different from the local “bikes from the bunch”, one that can also ride & compete with those big name brands…

A Kaze Hayate bike has just won an event at OCBC Cycle 2024 in Singapore besting 8 other teams! Ridden by this promising 24 year old Thai nat'l champ who also qualified and will be racing in Paris Olympics..

Happy to see a bike that you probably never heard like Kaze Hayate compete and beat some of the mainstream brands out there..at least in this part of the world...proving it has that race-capable DNA on it..
This Gen 1 Hayate (silver paint) was actually the one that caught my attention and helped me decide to go with this frameset. I really like those smooth lines and silhouette of aero-wish profile from the front side then the boxy muscular look from back side angle.
