Does anyone have any experience with Rex wax yet? Specifically, I am interested to hear if it does give a longer life relative to the other options like silca or molten? If it does last a lot longer than the 2-300km of the others, it could get me to finally make the jump.

How do you get only 200-300 km of the others? With top-up method, I get 750~1000 km on silca hot melt depending on weather

Not really a direct comparison.

You'd be better stating how far you get before needing to 'top-up'.

That also to me, defeats the purpose of Hot Waxing, but maybe I'm different :noidea:

I can't test the claims but it was definitely a no go for me because it got messy AF an oil based lube. One of the main reasons I swapped to wax years ago was its cleanliness, on top of longevity of parts and efficiency of drive train.

I have done 600-700km on rex wax and I am convinced you can go further. But if you only get 200-300km out of a MSW waxed chain you are doing something wrong.

I used to take off old wax and reapply new too but now i just clean the chain with their drivetrain cleaner and apply the drip kind. I see no difference in performance, longevity, cleanliness etc at all.
When you initially do hot wax, the wax gets in every little nook of the chain. I doubt riding it will then take off those little bits that you get with the hot wax. By cleaning what's on the surface and reapplying drip type wax on top you're probably getting same result as hot wax in the first place.

Wax-based lube topping up is a pretty basic and efficient route, widely accepted, as discussed in the "adverntures in chain waxing" thread. :noidea:

In my case is UFO v2, topping up each 150~300 km depending on weather/route, the worst case will be after one ride caught in heavy rain

I haven't done it, but silca for example says about 300km before you need to either top off or rewax. Rex did slightly outperform both silca and molten in zero friction's testing, but it's still not clear from what I can tell if Rex does allow for significantly longer timeframe before something needs to be done (top-up or rewax)

Were you doing the more concentrated 4 to 1 ratio?

Not sure? Mine was called "Rex Black Diamond"
is that the more concentrated ratio?

The wax lasted me a little more than others, but it's dirtier.

Their drip lube doesn't last as long, but it's the most slippery stuff I've used.

You are talking about the drip lube. The rest of us are talking about the hot melt wax released this year.

Ah gotcha. My bad. Drip lube is also wax based though so i wonder if the hot melt version is any cleaner. Molten was also somewhat "dirtier" in hot wax form but rex was another level.

Although nothing can touch the GUNK that squirt produces... lol.

In any case, all above rode great. Rex was really crazy slippery feeling. Obviously I have no way to test but it almost felt like going from a bad BB to a really nice one like BBinfinite or Ceramic Speed.
But yeah turning black and getting on stuff is a deal breaker for me personally.

The hot melt version is a lot cleaner. It is in the same ballpark as MSW.

I get those that do it are happy with what they do, but I don't.

I have multiple chains per bike and just R&R and when I'm down to the last, just fire up the pot and hot rewax the lot.

What I guess I was pointing out is that IF you did the 'top-up' with MSW, are you saying that you are getting 3x more by doing the same with Rex hot wax?

I get 250 - 350km per hot wax without top up, hence the apples/oranges comment.
