Castelli Jacket
The Alpha Light could be used at lower temps with a thicker base layer, but I prefer to use it with a light SS base or none at all, using the "built-in" base layer. In a medium the original RoS version has a close fit, including the sleeves. Yes, there is a bit of overlap as well as personal preferences. You can make less things work in more situatons, or, once you know what works for you, buy more stuff and cover all your bases. Which has been an easy decision with some of the recent sales.

I recently asked Castelli themselves about this & they saidsteveadore wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 9:21 pmHow does the sizing of the Perfetto RoS 2 (3 pockets, current model) compare with the predecessor RoS (2 pockets) exactly? I understand the latter is a bit tighter fit, but is there a full size difference between these two?

I am good with 3 colors of Perfetto Ros already but was curious. But it does sound like they are saying a full size difference as the Medium previously fit perfect

Yes I'm glad I got a few of the last years model as it fit me very well & works well for a wide temp range
I'm sad to say I think Castelli is going the wrong direction lately with the baggy sleeves & midsections especially with the Rosso Corsa stuff

I have the Castelli Alpha ros2 light and it is brillaint. The infinium fabric really works and it is amazing how warm it is being so thin.
I live in SoCal so I have only worn it down to high 50's. Might need to add a thermal base layer if you ride in 40's.

I got one of these as well.. (not used it yet) I've been down to the mid/upper 30s with a thermal base layer and a pedal mafia thermal jacket and have been ok (not great) I run warm so I went alpha light to not over do it.
PM does not rate their jacket, but it's more of a jersey to me.

Yeah, while everyone's sensitivity to coldness is different to me the Alpha ROS 2 is definitely a jacket for zero degrees or lower. However in that range it's one of the few and probably the best option. Great jacket even if it's rarely needed.

I'm curious what the Castelli Raddoppia jacket is like. Does anyone know?
The Raddoppia looks appropriately warm (but not too warm) for British winter weather. However, I can't see any ventilation zips, and I'm uncertain of its rain repellency. Endura's Pro SL 3-season jacket looks like a better bet

Raddoppia is from "old" line of jackets for dry weather I think, starting from lightest:Britishedgehog wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 6:40 pmI'm curious what the Castelli Raddoppia jacket is like. Does anyone know?

TRANSITION: membrane on a front, fleece on a back, front of the sleeves with membrane, back of the sleeves fleece.
MORTIROLO: membrane+fleece on a front, fleece on a back (sleeves membrane front, fleece back - and a bit less fleece on sleeves i think - or just a bit less stretchy - that was my feeling)
fleece on a back (or bottom of sleeves) is not water-resistant or repellent at all. (like a "polar blouse" - and it looked like it

RADDOPPIA: membrane+fleece everywhere - but, it has goretex infinium everywhere, and even longer lower back - it's water-resistant to some point (in contrast to above jackets, which have a lot of 'bare' fleece)

Many thanks. That’s helpful info.
I ended up going with the Endura Pro SL 3-season jacket. It’s been bloody brilliant! Thanks to the handy choice vents, I’ve been super impressed by the jacket’s versatility. I can start with all the vents closed for warmth, then unzip various vents as I ride.
Endura’s design team gave this jacket a lot of thought. For example, the removable thermal liner—which I thought would be a gimmick—is very clever and warm for a thin thing. It has ventilation holes that precisely match the outer jacket’s vents, enabling me to keep riding without removing the liner as I warm up.
I tried on and nearly bought an Assos Hashoogi, but I surprised myself by preferring the Pro SL 3-season jacket.
