New frame or wheels

I have previously posted on upgrading my 5 year old Comtat Regale - in mint condition and has served me well.
Custom build and fits me. I have been looking to upgrade and have whittled it down to 2 possible bikes.
Sarto Asola - colourways are 😩 or the Festka Scalatore. My current bike has Campag record, Fizik finishing kit and Zipp 202 - with stock hubs. I like to climb and try to get to the mountains once/twice a year.
My questions are:
Would I see an improvement on climbing with a new frame?
Would a rebuild on the Zipps - Tune hubs (which I have on another bike) and stiffer spokes, see more of an improvement.
Would spending money on a coach and PM for the Comtat improve climbing.
Comtat is a tad over 7kg.

I currently follow a TrainerRoad plan, weight 57kg (off season) 56kg (summer) and have been cycling for years.

Would welcome any advice. Thanks so much. 😊

As much as I love buying new gear, it seems like working with a coach, structured training plan, etc is always going to produce more gains than any new purchase.

No equipment is going to fundamentally transform your climbing. Lighter weight obviously helps but when you plug in shaving 1kg into a calculator you'll find out that you'll typically only save a handful of seconds on a climb. And that is great if you are trying to win a race by seconds but it's not going to allow you to keep up with the other guy that climbs that hill 3 minutes faster.

How is the Trainer Road plan going? Are you improving?

Training plan is going well so far this winter. I slightly over cooked it last year and got shingle. So, have dropped a session and I feel better for it.

- if youre trying to build self gratification - frame
- if you're trying to get stronger for the next season - coach. BIG CAVEAT here is be careful in selecting one. There's a lot of quack coaches out there

By experience: I got a lot stronger when I got a coach for an off season block. I was ready to race by spring, but this is coupled by a ton of group rides, spirited and easy ones.

You should get new wheels, but deeper, because aero trumps weight nearly every time. :)

Only get a coach if you feel like you have hit a plateau and aren't progressing on your own anymore. Usually this happens if/when you put a lot of hours in training.
As said above, it is really hard to find a good/right coach.

I tried a coach 2 years ago and the guy burned me out so hard that I've been strugling to find a rythm (in riding/training) and just recently got back the joy in cycling by doing Z1/Z2 (heartrate based, the bad experience also made me ditch my powermeters) rides.

If your riding isn't very goal orientated (racing, gran fondo riding,..) I would just suggest to get a new frame if you feel like you need this. It would put a smile on your face and give you some extra joy while riding (at least for a while).

As you like climbing, consider putting the money in a cycling holiday or some kind of cycling training camp/retreat in the mountains.
But I could be wrong

Yes, I have 2 trips planned next year - both involve mountains 😊I was over trained by a male coach some years ago and it was dreadful. So, would proceed with caution. TrainerRoad is working currently as I am seeing an increase in FTP month on month. Thanks

Get a new frame or wheels if you want too. You dont need a reason. N+1=S-1 so N =S-2.

S can be spouce or garage store available

You need to be able to move bikes about. In the chiltern you have plenty of hills to train on. If you fancy a change take you bike to the Lincolnshire/Norfolk boarder for week and ride into the wind.

If you're just preparing for a trip and not a race then TR is just fine. I think your money is best served for a new frame/bike. Lose the extra pounds and keep on that TR regimen.
