What's the weight of the two tires?

I just purchased a set of GP 5000s TT tires in a size 28. One weights 246 grams and the other 250 grams.

Did anyone here mount the Aero 111 tyres on a rim with a big inner width e.g. 24 or 25mm?
Would be interesting how they actually measure.

For example, the GP 5k TT STR 28mm measure about 30.5mm on my 24IW

I mounted a 26c on a 21mm inner. It came out to 27mm after a ride. On a 24 or 25mm, that would be about 28mm. Nothing is really round ,but it works out to be 3.1459mm of extra rim width = 1mm of tire width.

I didn't expect anything from the tire over a std GP5k, but I have to say you dont get that little feeling when a gust of wind or you make a 90deg turn to the wind that lets you know the wheel is doing something. It's noticably smoother in turbulent air even if you're using a pretty friendly wheel.

I know they aren't the fastest in terms of rolling resistance, but this discussion makes me wonder how the Specialized Turbo tyres perform in terms of aerodynamics. The pattern and its placement on the shoulders of the tyre kinda reminds me of vortex generators some companies are putting on the shoulders/arms of TT skinsuits.

It’s my understanding that the Aero 111 vortex generators essentially create a wide and virtually shallow continuous trip strip at high RPM for crosswinds flowing over the tire. They don’t work how you think they do. It’s not for reducing drag at 0deg yaw and that’s shown in their own test data.

There's an interesting explaination by SwissSide on this. That, yes, it's not for 0deg and the turbulators come into effect by helping air stay attached as yaw increases.

I have to admit i'm really curious about these tires. The combo of Conti's rubber compound and this aero tread.
I think since the GP4k, where they accidentally found out the tread was more aero, this Aero 111 just makes deeper turbulators and the actual shape maybe isn't so consequental. It's just that any tread shape has to create enough turbulence. Random thought.

Would be good to hear more owners impressions as time goes on.

It's not a full circle and those are too many significant digits anyway.

0.4mm tire width per 1mm wheel width is closer to reality.

I recall approximation 0.7mm of tire width for 2mm of rim width.
That'd be 0.35mm of tire width per 1mm of rim width.

So we have 0.31, 0.35, 0.4 now.

And those are close enough to not matter. All three numbers are within 0.09mm. When I measure one tire in 3 places, the measurements vary about 0.2mm and I report the average. This applies to all tires I've ever measured. Even a few psi will change the tire by 0.1mm.

I think it still miss less rubber than any non-slick gravel tires shoulder and Specialized Turbo road tires with micro knobs shoulder though.

The pressure will just re-distribute on the remaining area.

As a person with this tire I can tell you it feels exactly like a GP5000, grip or otherwise.

Feels the same and the pockets don't seem to make it more fragile in my use on dirty roads.


The Pi comment was both a bit of kidding and not kidding. Tires aren't round and the mounting impacts the shape as well.... but it's still pretty close.
