Ah, I get it. The upper assembly proves to be problematic for quite many people. I replaced the whole upper assembly by a Chris King dropset upper. Sadly the King lower bearing does not fit. Some have replaced the upper with a Wolftooth assembly that can be bought solo as the upper part. There is a discussion here about the upper bearing coming loose and many have gone the route to replace it to achieve peace of mind.
Okay, quick question Folks. I'm currently looking to change my crux to a 2 x. Obviously I will have to replace the rear derailer but I'm looking to get a 50 tooth front ring. I realise that the GRX does not make this has anyone tried an ultegra chain set upfront? Would that have enough clearance around the chain stay?
2019 - Madone SLR 7.9 kg
2021 - Crux s-works 7.4 / 8kg road v gravel
2021 - Brompton P line … don’t ask

And second Question to anyone using a wolf tooth headset? Does the top tube cover rotate when you turn the handlebars? I'm just concerned about any rubbing call rid of the specialised one a while ago as it kept coming loose

Is anyone else using new dura-ace 12 speed on their Crux? If so couple of questions.
- Gearing - 50/34t 11/34 cassette... how is this?
- No clutch - how does the RD handle the rough stuff without a clutch?
- any chain catchers with the 2x?
Cheers

I'm running 12 Speed Ultegra Di2 on my Crux.
50/34 with 11-34 gearing is fine for me, but I don't live anywhere mountainous with sustained steep climbs. I ran XPLR on my Mog with a 44 front and 10-44 rear for reference
RD is fine without a clutch, I ran it on some rough cx courses this year and it was fine assuming everything is adjusted properly.
I do run a chain catcher, K-Edge Pro road. I honestly don't know if you need it or not, I have never dropped a chain on this bike and 12 Speed Di2 FD shifting is just incredible with stock shimano rings.
I did have to put a 1mm spacer between the standard shimano crankset and BB, now I am running a Quarq D Four with Shimano rings and no longer have a clearance issue.

Red crank (non wide)
46/33 sram force chainrings
10-36 force cassette
force wide front derailleur

I'm running a 50/34t right now. Was running a 52/36t for a while. Just needed a 1mm drive side spacer. Works like a charm.srtlewis wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 11:43 amOkay, quick question Folks. I'm running Ultegra 12sp, 50/34t up front and 11-36t on the back with a 105 RD. Love this setup. Zero complaints. Zero issues on gravel roads. I've never run a chain catcher ever on any bike. Set up the FD correctly the first time and shouldn't have an issue.
