Well if it's a traditional diamond frame then what would make it UCI illegal? It would need to have elevated stays or something to be an illegal design.

A light frame in of itself isn't illegal under UCI rules, it's the weight of the whole system.

Anyone can build a bike under 6.8kg, you can do it with a steel frame if you want

Would love to see what a modern build of a zipp 2001 or trek y foil would be like. Use the latest mfg and wind tunnel tech and it might be very interesting.

Would people really go crazy for a 5.8kg road bike? The canyon Ultimate Evo (rim brake) was actually below that, with the Disc Version just above that, and it had some minor aero features here and there. Wasn't really a big hit apparently (didn't even last a full year).
UCI illegal in terms of "Aero beyond Venge" (or rather S5, Factor One, SystemSix), would be a lot more interesting.

Cervelo PX is an attempt at Building the best and fastest bike for a 90 or 180k bike split. I have no idea how successful this was, but it certainly doesn't mean that a UCI illegal, fastest possible road bike would look anywhere similar, as demands in road racing are just very different.

Because every race is sanctioned by the UCI? I have not ridden in any UCI sanctioned race yet, no need to ride a UCI approved bike for me.

May i ask what lead to your decision to pick the shiv tt over the tri one?

Firstly, I am only riding TTs, not triathlon. Therefore, most oft the races are participate in are 10 to 45k in length, some very hilly, and some tight-cornered. I don't know how many watts faster the fastest Tri Bikes are than the Shiv TT, but I certainly don't need bento boxes, drinking systems or anything like that. Also, usually Tri bikes come specced with a shallower front wheel and a deeper rear wheel, while I prefer a DEEP front wheel (not really given with the Shiv either) and a Disc in the back.
Lastly, the bike is handling and comfortable like a Venge, which is amazing.

That actually opens up something very interesting.

As seen in the article, Specialized have a program called 'Very Special Things' that allow their designers to come up with some funky projects.

They don't seem to have released an article this year from what I can see, so maybe they took that fUCI concept and ran with it a bit more (although hopefully without a motor and windsheild)

True, but some of us do and have. I also wouldn't buy an electric bike, so maybe I'm just a Luddite.

I heard from a little birdie that the new "UCI Illegal Specialized" will be called the "Ethos" and will be noticably below the UCI legal weight limit. It'll have minimal aero cues and be all about being below 6.8kg.
