Expect the first protorypes in the Vuelta or giro.
Delivery for the more mortals like us will take at least another year.

If shimano decides to reinteoduce di2 to MTB line...with the rise of dropper posts..where will they place the battery and will this inform the layout used for 9200 road? Ie will "semi wireless" or whatever be spurred on bybthe demands of mtb packaging?

MTBs have for the most part had the Di2 battery in the steerer tube since forever. (Edit: Sorry, not the headtube!)

I see the current MTB Di2 as the end of the line for that experiement, it will exist mainly to support current Di2 users supplied with replacement parts.

Just to poor a some gas on the flame while it dims down - sounds as if the wires have gotten smaller as well - for what wires that are left.

So how does this translate to timing if anyone knows? From the availability of tech drawings to the release of the new products?

Less wires in new Di2?! While probably nobody realistically expects a full wireless setup, we do hope for a simplified setup.

Simplified? It’s so simple now a child could wire it up.

It's easier and takes less time to wire and set a whole Di2 bike than properly adjusting just a eTAP front derailleur!
