Often I find myself browsing Craigslist in other cities besides my own for bicycles, parts or memorabilia. I've gotten lucky a few times and back in October I got lucky once again and picked up this 58cm original paint (AD21) 1999 C40 in Mapei Team livery. Arranged shipment from California to Texas with the buyer and before the week was out, I added another C40 to the stable.

The bike was all wrong upon arrival. From the groupset, to the handlebars to "D" all of the above. Complete disaster but I planned a full era-specific build using as many NOS parts I could attain for a reasonable price. The goal was to build Paris Roubaix Johaan Museeuw tribute bike.

Build List:

Colnago C40 Mk2 Mapei
Shimano DA 7700 25th Anniversary Groupset
NOS Shimano DA 7700 Team Crankset
NOS Shimano DA 7700 Italian BB
Shimano DA 7410 Team Seatpost w/ USE shim
NOS Colnago Ergo Light 130mm stem
NOS ITM Super Italia PRO 260 Handlebars 38cm
NOS Ambrosio Blue Cork
NOS Elite Ciussi Black Water Cages
NOS Mapei GB Water Bidons
NOS Ambrosio Nemesis 32h laced to NOS DA 25th Anniversary hubs
Vittoria 23mm Pave Evo Tubulars
Chris King 1" Headset with 1 1/8" top cap
Selle Italia Milano Turbo Saddle

Definitely in the home stretch and has been a wonderful build. Awaiting the wheels to get laced, tires glued and the saddle is in the mail. Couple of odds and ends and she's a done deal.

Nice bike! Great rebuild.
But how long was that stem on the previous set-up?

Very nice. I've got a mk3 B Stay C40 Mapei I found on eBay. Paid £360 for the complete bike built with Campagnolo from the time. Was very lucky to pick up at such a great price, was advertised with wrong info.

Currently building a C64 Mapei, just waiting for some Vision 5D bars to be returned that I'm getting custom painted in the Mapei paint scheme.

I have a 56 I was going to build up but it really bigger than I would like, so at one point I will trade or sell it.

Are you sure that its a 56 not a 58? It looks the same size as mine and its a 58. What's the headtube length?

Very nice.

When did Colnago start making sloping TTs for the C series? Wish I could find a non sloping for smaller sizes like in this case, a 49 would fit me and it's non sloping.
