Short story: Next year will be on disc brakes.
The new bikes are Ultegra 8000 equipped. I will be looking for some upgrades to lighten up the stock bikes.
I'm ok finding the usual lighter components, but the disc brakes are new to me.
So, wich components are good upgrades for a light racing disc brakes setup ?
-Discs ?
-Thru-axles ?
-Calipers lighter than 8070 8050 ?
Anything else I'm forgetting ?

thanks :beerchug:

I've seen some titanium fixings for the calipers on ebay.

Other than that I'm guessing TA depending on what you have/are getting. J&L seem pretty light.

thur axles indeed.. you can save alot of weight there potentially.. my BMC came with light ones already.
The usual Ti screws... but not always great everywhere... for the calipers maybe ok, not much force in Nm there... I've exactly stopped using Ti for stem bolts (they suck..or atleast chinese made do)

Crank? Light wheels? Light frame?

Proprietary parts no, standard yes. It will keep your options open.

Sram 11s group? Dura-ace?

I got J&L ti disc bolts and thru axles on the way. Not sure where to find ti caliper mounting bolts though, or what size I should get. Light rotors. That's about it I think...

TitaniumPlanet has a variety of hollow Ti bolts, I used these on my DM fork, the weight is 3.18g with CF washers.

What about rotors ?
I read this other thread who mentions either Campagnolo with compatible calipers, or just stick with Shimano ?

What rotor interface? See XTR for Centerlock. For 6-bolt, Ashima Ai-2/AiNeon or KCNC Razor are best weight/price ratio.

I'll be shopping for centerlock on the race wheels. It's 160 mm front, 140 mm rear (road bike).
Axles: 12X100X123 front 12X142X163 rear.

Hope rx4 callipers are the way to go.
Do you have these installed on your Allez ? I'm curious about the weight savings, and performance. Hope products are usually well rated.

Depends on how far you are willing to go. See my build list for detailed weights of RX-4. DM rear caliper is a couple of grams heavier than PM.

No, I already had dura ace callipers so I was not willing to fork out extra and rebleed to get the RX4s working. My friend has them on his TCR and I installed them without any issues at all. Huge pads and 4 pistons.
Although he accidentally bought post mount callipers so much of his weight savings from Ultegra was negated.Image
