Replacing drivetrain components - what are your experiences?
Moderator: robbosmans
I know there's no guide out there on exact distance or something when to replace the chain and mostly the cassette and the chainrings. I'm wondering what your individual experiences are? How often do you replace the cassette and the chainrings and what kind of conditions you finds yourself in?
Don't base when to change components on other people's experiences - replace stuff when it wears out rather than after an arbitrary number of kilometers ridden.
Having said that , I go through about 3 chains per cassette, maybe 4 but that's pushing it, haven't had to change chainrings yet. It would definitely be longer if I kept everything a bit cleaner, especially in winter.
Most of my summer riding is dry and most winter riding at least involves wet roads. I've taken to using Finish Line dry lubricant all year round, it seems to stay on even in heavy rain and is way less mucky than wet lubricant.
