Basic pressfit tools..... Risky?
Moderator: robbosmans
Bike is bb86.
Debating on buying a pressfit tool from Chainreaction cycle, basically around 50bucks to install campy UT cups and (sram GXP on 2nd bike)
Will they work or do I stand a high chance of making a mess of it?

It'll work. Just take it carefully and make sure the cups are going in straight.

Just write "Park Tools" in marker pen and job's a good un!
I pressed in a PF30 a couple of times using a DIY press. Same for the removal tool!
I've used a DIY press several times.
The trick to doing it right is to do one cup at a time. Took me a few BBs to figure this out (I didn't break anything, just took 10x longer as I couldn't get both to stay straight at the same time.)
That said, the last BB I installed was a thread-together type that worked in PF frames. It was _super_ easy.

FYI Wheels Manufacturing sells a very affordable press complete with all the drifts you'd ever need. Once you get the hang of pressing and removing bb's and other bearings which takes about a minute, it's a breeze.

Just had a look, that Universal Pressfit tool, that’s very affordable and looks like great option.
Just need a removal tool too then I’m pretty much set to DIY everything.

The pressing part isn't the tough part. The cheap versions will do fine there.
Removing the old cups and bearings with controlled force on your carbon frame is something different. I prefer the CEMA Bearing Bottom Bracket Replacement Tool, which is very similar to the Enduro bearings.
