Are We Getting A New Cannondale Supersix?

I would have to agree. The disc frames look great and clean up the look. That goes for many disc frames. Living in flat Florida caliper brakes are more than adequate. So I am happy to see Cannondale with a caliper option. I am really curious about the frame weight with all the added areo treatments. Not my cup of tea but as a bike nerd, I'm always curious.

I mean... Great if you're a Cannondale fan. But we already had this bike. It's called BMC Teammachine.

It might depend where you live but over here, nobody buys BMCs, even dentists find them overpriced. Teammachine has the drop stays and the D-shaped seatpost but the front triangle is even less aero than the current Evo's.

Oh totally! I have nothing against Cannondale. It's just that I wished SuperSix after SO MANY YEARS without an upgrade tried something different? I dunno.
Otherwise I have 0 issues with how it looks. It's great.

There’s only so many shapes that make sense for different tools. All hammers look like other hammers. All mobile phones look the same. All fuel efficient cars have pretty much the same truncated airfoil / Kamm profile. I’m not sure what you’re expecting, especially when the UCI is still imposing draconian rulesets governing the look of approved racing bikes.

But sure, entertain me. How would you change the new SuperSix?

But, remember before BMC's when all bikes had conventional double triangles, and before the first TCR when all TTs were still horizontal... did people complain then that each new bike already existed because of every other bike? No they didn't, because it was generally understood that there was much more to bike design than the general shape of a silhouette. When did we lose that?

When you try to make something different just for the sake of being different, you end up with heavy ugly messes like Pinarellos... well, most italian companies still seem to prioritize style over function IMO. :P

Even though they're not 'styled' to look that way but more engineered and designed by the laws physics, form following function, to be honest there are worst insults than saying a bike looks a bit like a Teammachine or Tarmac SL6. While I hated the previous versions of each (BMC's over styled superficial gimmick kinks/notches/edges, the bowed top tube trend of older Tarmac), cosmetically, I find the latest ones are some of the nicest looking bikes around right now...

I think there are still people who appreciate what set these bikes apart though, some people are visually challenged and will say one bike looks like another when they clearly dont (they both have two wheels and a similar handlebar and tube-like structures!), picking again a Teammachine vs Tarmac, some say they look the same because they have drop stays and kamm tail seatposts, mostly big not quite perfectly round tubes elsewhere, but they still have quite distinct personalities IMO, they don't evoque the same style even with the similarities, same thing with the new Evo compared to those. The silhouette is similar but people often don't look at the details, the different subtleties, proportions and pay attention to the somewhat intangible differences... I mean, ou faces are all the same, nose in the middle, twho eyes slightly above that, a mouth underneath, ears on both sides, yet, we all look different and have very different personalities even if we stay still...

But then you have the ride, the feel, handling, not the same for every bikes even though they can look similar, and Cannondale's geometries and handling is probably what kept me on their bikes for so long, the handling of a Evo is just so good, quick yet not twitchy, stable but reactive, it's like it knows what you think when you go really fast down a mountain.

Exposed cables drive me nuts in 2019.

And I know the purists will hate my comment, but its 2-0-1-9. There has to be a way to hide these things like what Trek did to the Madones.

The only kudos I'm giving is they routed the cable inside the fork for the disc versions. Othet manufacturers still have it outside.

The disc frame does look pretty slick. I love the fact they hid all of the cables. Definitely sets it apart from the Tarmac SL6. With the dropped stays and the aero shaping I'm sure it wont come close to the Emonda weight, but maybe it could be lighter than the Tarmac? That'd be something. If you're chasing purely weight, an Evo 2, Ultimate or Izalco Max or the aformentioned Emonda all with rim brakes are your best bet.

Now Cannondale. PLEASE PLEASE get some better paint jobs. They've been so awful the last couple years.

Just hope that Cannondale release the numbers compared to the system six. At least that gives us a baseline whilst we wait for the Tour, etc tests to hit

This is what I think every time I read a post accusing a new bike model of being a clone of another model. In the 1980s-90s when most bikes were still steel and a few aluminum, they were outwardly very similar. Today, I think we have far more variety of form plus unseen design details than ever.

Cyclingnews should update their website to have bigger sized pictures, we can't see too well on their dial-up internet era sized galleries.
