pretty sure it's the same... it can handle way more then 34t obviously... Even some short ones like 9070 I could use 30 no issues and 32 depending on bike.

Praxis, FSA, and Easton (47-32) make them. Some even go down to 46-30. Pretty sure SRAM's new 12 spd AXS has it too.

Use the XTR long cage on your 9100 derailluer

I have successfully used a 9100 rd with the road link from wolftooth on a sram xx1 10-42 cassette. It doesn’t make sense to buy a long cage ultegra if you already have the dura ace. Plus the roadlink adds 8g, which means it still weighs less than an ultegra long cage. I’ve seen the ultegra long cage work on a 40 with just b screw adjustment, no roadlink needed.

You just have to be sure you don’t use the big big combo, I did once. It bent the disc that goes around the pulley wheel and had to be replaced. Luckily the cheap ones on lower grade shimano fit fine. I use it temporarily so I don’t put on a longer chain.

Be aware in a 34-42 that’s about 5.8 mph at 90rpm. If you want to spin up long mountain climbs, or up 20-30% grades it is totally good for that. I use it when I take on monster steep climbs like the Pittsburgh dirty dozen.

If you don’t need a gear that you can do 90rpm in at 5.8mph, then stay with a 34 or 36. A 34-34 is 7.1mph at 90 rpm and a 34-36 is 6.7 mph at 90rpm.

But if you are a grinder, the only time you would use a gear that big and be out of the saddle is on a climb over 30% grade. That’s something few will ever ride.

Sorry for the silly question, but I’ve always wondered if running a larger cassette in the back, when sizing the chain, do you still wrap 50t to 36t rear without wrapping it through the RD and add a couple more links?

Different frames have slightly different derailleur mounts so your results may vary but on most bikes 9100 needs the Roadlink while 8000 GS works stock. That's how we do it at Santana Tandems.

You mean an Ultegra takes a 40 without a hanger extender? Then would the 8050 Di2 GS also have the same capability?

Yes, that's the most common spec at Santana. But since frames differ slightly I can't guarantee it on your frame.

Well, I can confirm that the 8070 gs can easily handle a 40 cassette. At least on my frame.

if it's based on rx805, I would say yes. I would add, 42t require a roadlink when I had the Rx805
