Hello there,
has anyone seen/read if the two new AXS systems (road & mtb) can be mixed? Sram Force 1x had 10-42 before & now eTap AXS 1x apparantly only goes up to a 36 cassette as far as I read.. which is actually quite a step back at first glance.. so I was thinking/wondering if one could get the new shifters/levers but use their MTB AXS derailleur in the back (what works with Shimano DI2 for example quite well).

Half way down at https://www.velonews.com/2019/02/bikes- ... axs_483097You can mix and match eTap road products with Eagle products. As a rule of thumb, however, it’s important to remember that the rear derailleur will dictate which chain and cassette you use. For example, if you’re using a road rear derailleur, you must use the Flattop chain. But you cannot use a Flattop chain with an Eagle rear derailleur.
If you want to run a 1X system with a lower gear range on your road or gravel bike, you’d need to use an Eagle AXS cassette and chain, but you can use an Eagle or eTap AXS crank or eTap AXS shifters. The eTap AXS shifters are compatible with Eagle AXS components, and you can even control the wireless dropper post using your eTap AXS shifters or blips.

.. aaand Sram replied to me support inquiry within a few minutes (!), too and updated their FAW pages: https://sram.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/artic ... railleurs-
.. so that's really nice!

Oh I quite like it.. shame is, that individual components won't be available until a couple months after the release according to dealers over here.. so you can only pre-order/get the whole Eagle AXS groupsets for the time being & try to sell the crank + controller (probably with a loss).. oooor wait.

Yeah... I currently run my 1x 11s gravel bike with a 48t Chainring leaning towards 50T and 10-42 cassette in the back.. and the RD looks still ok in terms of stretching forwards, but not too much room left. I assume the MTB cages are a bit longer and therefore might take up a bit more chain slack but even though I asked Sram's support about the max chainring size, I haven't heard back, yet..Bonesbrigade wrote: ↑Thu Feb 07, 2019 10:06 pmThe big question for me though is if you can do this with a larger chainring like a 46t - can the RD handle that kind of chainwrap and slack in the smaller cogs - it would also be a super long chain.

Max chainring size with 10-50 Eagle cassette is (only) 38t o.O (see https://youtu.be/rLRKzL6etIY?t=299 (the German Sram rep answers this exact question there)). Sooo - any after-market companies make smaller 12s & Eagle compatible cassettes.. something like 10-42/44/46 maybe?Bonesbrigade wrote: ↑Thu Feb 07, 2019 10:06 pmThe big question for me though is if you can do this with a larger chainring like a 46t - can the RD handle that kind of chainwrap and slack in the smaller cogs - it would also be a super long chain.

I have 11s eTap on an Open UPPER frame, and I can fit a 700Cx38 or 650Bx48 and still have about 3mm clearance to the battery on the FD. So if they've improved the battery clearance you should be able to do better than that.
I dont have an upper, but considering it because it can do 50mm+ Good to know thanks. What's the size of your front ring ? and I wonder if it's gets worse moving down since 50 is the max front on a upper.
