Enve Alloy Hubs

I'm not a wheel expert, but a 350g hubset with dubious flange spacing and debatable looks for almost 600$ doesn't really appeal to me. Plus, centerlock for the disc version is another no-go for me. But I'm sure they'll show up on a lot of nice bike builds.

Enve doesn't really make anything that people here like. Maybe their older forks, but that's about it. If you want to impress your dentist friends Enve stuff is nice, but it's hard to appeal to many people when everything is over priced and heavy.

I am a fan of Enve's wheels and going the custom build route I don't think they're overpriced. I'm having a set of 3.4s built up with Tune Mig/Mag hubs for £2,100. Admittedly this is as part of a complete bike build, but even going to a wheel builder I used to get my AForce set build I was quoted £2,400 for the same spec.

This puts them in a very similar price range to Zipp's NSWs and with (subjectively) better braking performance, wheels optimised for 25mm tyres and quite a bit lighter than Zipp's 303s (1,365g vs 1,500g).

That said, I think Enve's alloy hubs are very overpriced. I will continue to spec Tune MigMags on any wheelsets I have built in future.

I've run Tune MigMags for the last 18 months or so (10,000km approx.) and absolutely love them. £440 and 249g for the pair.

This is good to know, been thinking of going for Tune + Enve 3.4 for a while now - also want to run them tubeless if possible; anyone doing this?

I won't get mine for abother 2-3 weeks, but depending on when you want to order I might be in a position to provide some feedback.

That paired spoke hole thing will add complexity to spoke length calculations. Neither am I a fan of designs that reduce material volume where the spokes attach, that being a highly stressed area. Didn't someone post a photo here recently of a Novatec carbon hub of similar design where the spoke has cracked the hub flange?

I agree that the Alu hub is a joke, and probably a result of Mavic owning Enve now and wanting to slowly turn the company into Mavic 2.0. Why spend 2500 USD on great rims with poor hubs? Now, it's easy to pick on Lightweight because of the insane pricing here in the US. where 8 grand gets you a set of outdated V shaped rims that defeat the purpose of their aero profile. Is that wheel worth 5k more and 2 years shorter of a warranty? I think a great rim with the appropriate testing, made in USA, and laced to some USA made Chris King R45 ceramic hubs is a dream for a serious cyclist who cares about construction and durability. So disappointing to see this Alu hub on a 2500$ wheel.

Why spend 2500 USD on great rims with poor hubs? I think a great rim with the appropriate testing, made in USA, and laced to some USA made Chris King R45 ceramic hubs is a dream for a serious cyclist who cares about construction and durability. So disappointing to see this Alu hub on a 2500$ wheel.

Word. I have that exact wheelset and it's as close to perfection as I'd like. Sure I could get lighter hubs or rims but as an all-rounder they're spot on and pretty much bombproof.

Except Mavic don't own Enve, they're two seperate companies both owned by Amer Sports. And in the 3 years since Amer bought Enve, what have they done to make it into Mavic? Which Enve products resemble Mavic's? If they're turning Enve into Mavic 2.0 they're doing it glacially slowly
