Just added a BMC Timemachine Road 01 to my stable. I custom built this from the frameset to suit my needs (fast but comfy). Specs are:

Image

Framesize 54cm
Ultegra Di2 8070 with 170mm crankset (I have short legs)
Dura Ace 160mm rotors F/R
28mm Vittoria Corsa G+
Wheels Mfg threaded bottom bracket (don’t like plastic Shimano PF86)
KMC X11SL gold chain
Specialized Power Pro Saddle
Dura Ace pedals
Reynolds ARX 58/62 wheelset

Image

Weight without the aero module and pedals came in at 7.80 kg which is a bit under the published weight of 7.85 kg for the Ultegra Di2 equipped version. Not bad considering my build has deeper/wider wheels (30mm external width!), 28mm tires, slightly heavier saddle (hate stock Fizik saddle), and larger 160 rear rotor with adapter plate.

My winter/daily is a 2018 Roadmachine 02 with a similar build:

Framesize 54cm
Ultegra Di2 8070 with 170mm crankset
Ultegra 160mm rotors F/R
28mm Vittoria Corsa G+
Wheels Mfg threaded bottom bracket
KMC X11SL gold chain
Specialized Phenom Pro Saddle
Ultegra pedals
Mavic Carbon Pro wheelset

Have put in a few hundred miles on the Timemachine and am very impressed so far. Very fast bike that’s almost as comfortable/compliant as my Roadmachine.

That’s a nice clean build...good looking bike

I’m also impressed by your garage floor, again very clean and tidy😄

How do the rides compare between the two?

The new bike looks great! Some aero bikes start to lose appeal in smaller sizes, but this even looks better than other aero bikes in large sizes.

Really sensible build and great garage/workspace.

Thank you. With the builds having the same drivetrain and tires, the ride is somewhat similar. I'm very impressed at how compliant the TM is for an all-out aero bike. The TM is comfy yet puts put ~2mph faster times on my regular routes than my RM.

Nice build... suprised you picked 54 instead of 51 frame. On the TMR, seatpost look really short. I have the same dilemma on both my 51 and 54 previous TMR01. In between sizes...

I agree... that frame looks too big.

STs are pretty tall on this model (gives it that straight TT look) 54cm is 548mm ST. Even the 51 is like 518mm or something.... one reason why I went with the 47 which is like 480mm

I'm 5'9.5" but have short stubby legs. Reach of 381 on 51 frame would be a little tight for me having such a long torso.

That's an easy fix with a proper stem.

Super clean builds, I'm a huge fan of road machines, too. I've a far less specced 03 as my winter/commuter bike and would love to try an 02.

What's it weigh in at?

Very cool - looks like my twin! I even have the same fenders for rainy days. Really cool to see fender mounts on a carbon frame - only the RM 02 and 03s have this.

I don't remember the exact weight, but I think it was about 8.5 kg measured on a luggage scale. This is with pedals and wahoo mount. Not the lightest bike, but the Roadmachine rides so well with 28mm tires. I had a Spesh Roubaix Expert Di2 as my daily, but ended up selling it because I always reached for the BMC over the Roubaix. Even with the Futureshock suspension on the Roubaix the ride quality was comparable. I also love how with the low cone you can get a race geometry if that's what you prefer. That's one big advantage that an 02 BMC would have over your aluminum 03. Truly an "n-1" bike.

BCL... you need to trim that steerer... the expander plug can't be sufficiently supprting the stem in that position. You risk cracking it if you ride it long term, like that.
