Aliexpress imports to the EU
Moderator: robbosmans
Just came accross the open mold thread and got a bit carried away with a lighter bike in my head now. I've read varied reports on importing framesets and parts from China where an anti-dumping levy of nearly 50% as well as VAT is placed upon the declared value of the frameset and the postage together.
Has anyone come across this? Does it apply to other components? Say, wheelsets and so on?
Does anyone know of any sellers that would have EU stock ready?

Yeah, heard and thought about this already, too.
When I ordered my last frame to Belgium I nearly paid 100% tax/extra/customs. Apparently they plan a huge logistics hub here now.
Curious how this would impact prizes and yeah, customs.

100%!!?!?!
Who plans a hugs logistic hub?
Nah just email them. They'll probably be able to hook you up with a single item. I just bought a single set of wheels off them that also said MOQ10. There are only somethings that have MOQ.
Yeah, not kidding. I was really not happy.
Just looked it up, my order was 504 USD and I had to pay 510€ customs in total.
I don't regret anything cause the bike became great but I should have sent it to family/friends in Germany, Netherlands or UK that forward the package.

Just saw a disc frameset... I got etap rim.
Now if I can find out how to use my current levers with mechanical disc brakes...
Wow. Those duties are really in to discourage importing.kidrob wrote: ↑Fri Nov 16, 2018 10:05 amYeah, not kidding. I was really not happy.

Happy it worked for you. I hope you get many thousdand klicks on that frame!
On the forwarding to friends and family: it could have made no difference. I mean, the levies applied to the frameset are EU-wide and not exclusive to Belgium.
The same (antidumping import duty tax) applies to a wheelset imported from China to EU. Eventually it doubles the primary price you pay making the deal senseless. However , there is no antidumping duty tax when you import rims, hubs and spokes separately and assemble wheels yourself.
There's no anti-dumping if you buy for personal use.
Also, most sellers offer a customs-prepaid shipping method.

Overhere it's a third world tax of 47.5% on top.
With all taxes applied, anything carbon is like this.
Buy for 1000 USD, all taxes included you pay 1882 USD taxed and ready.
For any complaints you'd need to file it directly to EU commission.
Basically, there is no way around the tax.
I guess i don't need to get into paperwork required for any warranty issues or returning goods getting money back?
It's really not worth it.
