Giant SLR1 carbon disc wheels.
Moderator: robbosmans
Hi all,
I am looking at the Giant Defy from last year. These seem good value given they come with the above wheelset, which would be my first set if carbon wheels.
Any experience of how good/bad people have found them? The only thing rhat puts me off a little is the width of 17mm internal and 24mm external, which is only a little but narrower than the curent trends. However I wouldn't run the tubeless Giant tyres that are supplied. How wide do the likes of Continent GP4000S size up on the rims?
Safe riding.

Considering they already come with the bike I personally think they offer a tremendous value.
According to that one DT Swiss chart a 17C internal rim is going to work well up to about 35C tire.
The GP 4000 S II 28mm measures about 30.5-31mm on the 17C Giant PR-2 wheelset. I imagine it would be the same for the SLR's.

I have a pair on my TCR Advanced Pro Disc. They're pretty good. I may upgrade them at some point, but they're more than fine for now. They're not holding me back.
As for size and tires, I run Vittoria Corsa G+ 25mm on them. After 4K kms, my front tire measures 27.2mm at 90 psi. I never got around to measuring the 25mm tires when newly mounted. I recently put on a Corsa 28mm tire on the rear and it is 28.5mm at 90 psi.

I have the rim brake version SLR 1 30mm Climbing wheels for my TCR. They're solid wheels and decently light. Mine came in at 1425g for the pair with rim tape.

No, the Giant wheels are good. But in terms of performances and quality there are a few brands and models that are better (for example DT Swiss ERC etc..) but however more expensive.ongbenghui wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2018 11:16 amJust curious ? Any potential problem with the Giant SLR1 Wheels ?
The Giant wheels are good .... They weigh 1425g and are tubeless ready. No point in spending more money for aero wheels if your bike is not an aero frame. These are climbing wheels. I'd seriously look at getting a pair of IRC tubeless tyres or similar (25mm wide). If I were to use clinchers, I'd look at a pair of Specialized Turbo Cotton in 24mm wide.
They tyres ofer amazing value for money, and I may look at a set for my Giant TCR
