Does anyone know any info about the average watts of 1000m sprints on a track by the pros?

Peak power (for international level elite rider) at the start could be like 1800W and 400W at the finish line. Average power could be somethin like 750W.

We can all do 1000W for 30s; the defining factor for a great Kilo ride is what happens after 45s, when nearly everybody is dying on their arse. Kilo competitions are won, and more often lost, in lap 4.

OK, 1kW might be a bit high, but the point stands; if 30s power was any guide to kilo performance, the top ten in the World Championship would all have done 1:00.xxx (and the top ten would have been different people, in a different order) A field which is separated by a couple of tenths after two laps suddenly gets spread over 2 seconds when the crucial second half comes into play. Just taking 2 established sprinters (i.e. ignoring the unusually paced rides of Mini Phinney and a few other less experienced riders)

500m 1000m
NIMKE  32.068 1:00.666
PERVIS 32.230  1:02.976

I would also say that 1000w for 30 sec is a bit high.

But you are right, the second half of the kilo is where it all matters.
