Kickr 18 flywheel making squeak noises
Moderator: Moderator Team
Hi all,
Recently my 2018 Wahoo Kickr's flywheel started making squeak noises when pedaling at low speeds and I was wondering if anyone is familiar with this issue, and if anyone knows how to resolve it.
I've found quite a few videos showing the same issue, but non had advice on how to fix it.

You want to change the two bearings on the flywheel axle;
My bearings on my -18 Kickr wore out or got damaged races after about 10 000 kms. But there was no visual sign or play in the bearing.
SKF is the best quality beaings there are and I recommend getting these;

NTN are better than SKF, use higher manufacturing tollerances

I opened it up, and I noticed that the pully bolt oscillates when the flywheel is spinning. Is that normal? https://youtu.be/4T5ykAWxEGc
Also, there seems to be quite a bit of black belt dust in there.
Wahoo offered me a refurbished replacement of the same model for $250, but ordered bearings and I'm gonna see if that fixes it.

Some belt residue is normal, just scrape it off carefully not to damage the soft aluminium pulley wheel.Aryeh wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 6:21 amI opened it up, and I noticed that the pully bolt oscillates when the flywheel is spinning. Is that normal? https://youtu.be/4T5ykAWxEGc

The video shows no oscillation or imbalance of the pulley wheel so it is also completely normal.
That is a good thing, It means the axle diameter and the bearing inner diameter are pretty damn close.
I used a small-ish bearing puller and pried it out;
Be careful not to damage the white and black sticker, it is how the kickr reads the RPM.
Any update?
Did you get the Kickr fixed?

That’s a good deal. The few times I have dealt with them the customer service has been great.Aryeh wrote:I fixed the squeak sound but a new noise started so I ended up just opting for the replacement option from Wahoo for $250.Lucendi wrote:Any update?

Wahoo machining tolerances aren't up to a very high standard so replacement parts (that are up to a high standard) sometimes don't fit right. :/
