So it seems these are in the cycling news hugely after the TdF. there are two main suppliers of ketone esters, HVMN and KetoneAid. Has anyone tried either? If so, do you think they are worth the hype? Do they work?

Never tried but I saw this video a few months ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqfopRl ... gs=pl%2Cwn
Don't know if it's worth it for amateurs.

I doubt that an FTP test is the best way to highlight any potential benefits. For example, ketones might not increase FTP but they may give you more overall energy and leave you with more energy at the end of a long stage or help you recover day to day.

Personally, there's no ride that I do that is worth paying $30/dose!

I figure not for training regularly but maybe for a race and long training rides ahead of it
Doing a search I see no definitive research that it improves performance. At this point I'd concentrate on stuff that is known to work like vegetables with nitrates - beet root juice - caffeine. Optimize your nutrition - cut out non-performance foods like fast food and alcohol. If you are doing long events then develop a fueling strategy to get you through the event.

You could always try it. $100 for 3 doses. You might get $100 worth of placebo effect out of it.Therefore, at present there are no data available to suggest that ingestion of ketone bodies during exercise improves athletes' performance under conditions where evidence-based nutritional strategies are applied appropriately.
