Speaking as someone who was banned for two months, I want to thank the moderators for doing a difficult, time-consuming job for free, effectively and reasonably. We are all lucky that they have stepped up to take this on.

I agree with suggestions above that folks should be banned more often. Being banned was a great one shot learning experience for me to see how how others saw me. Message received, and my behaviour was modified accordingly. The folks I find most tedious are the one trick ponies.

(I lived in Normandy for a year. I love the French and their language, but holy cats—they love their prepositions!)
