3x10 for touring?!

Especially for light weight issues concerning cyclocross / touring bikes & parts.

Cannondale's top spec (out of 2) touring bike has a 3x10 arrangement.

Do you guys think a 10 speed chain is strong enough compared to a 9 speed chain to make it on a long touring campaign?

Have a

10-speed is strong enough for road racing, so construction wise, I would say yes.

However, availability could be an issue. If you are going to cycle trough less developed area's (meaning, not a racing bike shop in every big town), you might be out of luck if your chain suffers irrepairable damage.
