Canyon Grizl Front chainring max clearance
Moderator: Moderator Team
Hey guys,
I've just bought a new Canyon Grizl because gravel races are ever more popular here in France.
I picked the grizl because of the 50mm tire clearance.
It's the SRAM Apex axs version with 1* and it comes with a 40 at the front.
It will not be enough, so I wondered what max chainring size a grizl will take?
If I could avoid changing the crankset it would be nice
Thanks!

Just email Canyon and ask? Or measure the diameter of the chainring and distance to the stays and do some simple math.
On the only photos they have which show the crank it already looks quite tight, though that may just be the perspective…

Thank you for your response.
Juste emailed Canyon and its 40 max ....
I think I'll just cancel the order because from what I'm reading you can't really run Apex 2x
and I don't want to take the gamble of changing a crankset and a front derailleur just to have subpar shifting at best.
My dreams of a cheap gravel race bike flyes away lmao

I converted my Grizl to 1x a few months ago, I have GRX crankset and had to do a bit of testing. Keep in mind the Offset that some chainrings have.
I originally bought a 44t Garbaruk oval chainring. https://www.garbaruk.com/grx-oval.html?category=6 It fitted, but there was around 2mm clearance to the chainstays in the longest part of the oval, so I decided to send it back.
Then I bought a 42t Alugear oval chainring, which has 2.5mm offset, this one has way more clearance with the chainstays and is the one I have been using for the last 6 months with no problem. https://alugear.com/chainrings-1x/293-1 ... 5-size-42t
Hope this helps

Pass quest has 0mm offset with the 3 bolt GXP direct mount. They also have 3mm offset "aero" chainring.
Available through AliX or their website. I've been happy with their 110BCD Aero chainring on my gravel bike.

Both of my daughters have the Grizl in size XS. One is using a GRX 810 crank with a garbaruk oval 44T chainring. Second uses a Sram Rival Dub Wide Crank with a standard Sram 46T chainring. Works absolutely fine.
