I'm hoping for some insight/help
Does anyone else find brake control from the top of the bars to be a nightmare with the D1 levers? Or is it just me?
This is my first experience with SRAM road controls. I'm starting to think I made a bad decision. When braking from the hoods the brakes won't fully engage because the fingers holding onto the bars get pinched between the bar and the lever blocking them. When releasing the levers my gloves sometimes get pinched on the outside top of the lever. I'm also not a fan of the single button on each lever which requires both hands to shift up/down and no computer control. They just feel like a huge step backward in terms of safety and functionality. This all gets especially dicey when trying to hammer down some singletrack where fast precise braking input and solid bar control are critical.
I'm desperately missing my Shimano levers that allow for a secure grip in any position without catching on my gloves or interfering with brake engagement, and allow full shift control with one hand. I've run AXS on mtbs for years. The SRAM MTB controls are all very sensible and functional. I never considered that the road controls could be so bad.
What is the fix? Surely, I'm not the first to run into this.
I guess blips would mitigate the lack of control buttons but I'm not sure what to do about the braking control. Is dumping another $1200 on E1 components the only answer to the braking concern?
