I had a conversation with a Ridley dealer. The bare frame (unpainted, no handlebar etc) will cost:

ASTR RS: EUR 4099
ASTR (non-RS): EUR 1949

Pretty easy choice right? Non-RS version seems like the much better deal. According to Ridley it only is 90grams heavier. I suspect it might be a little less stiff due to the different layout, but that would actually be better for most non-professional riders.
Guessing unpainted in the base ASTR case are the three standard paintjobs? Orange, grey-matte and black sparkling? Or is custom-paint a obligatory option for framesets?

Unpainted should be raw carbon look, no paint at all (I am thinking of custom painting).

Spoke to a UK Ridley dealer. They mean painted black (gold decals) grey (dark grey decals) etc. prob lighter in black than RS in bright colour.

They do say 'non rs has less aero tweaks' but I don't believe it and can't see it on the frame.

£2000 was what I was quoted but no stock until next Feb at best.

less aero probably means the round seattube and -post. You can probably measure the difference in a windtunnel, but its nothing i would pay an extra 2.000 for

yeah leaning towards non-RS. I'll be wanting to use a dropper post anyways.. so it makes sense.

The non RS paint schemes do look at lot cheaper imo.

I'm still on the fence

When will someone get the first one is the question. Haven't seen any out there except for the sponsored riders yet. Will hopefully get to see one irl in 2 weeks time.

If you read the Ridley media it says the frameset itself has fewer aerofoiled sections. Can't remember where it was. I also doubt it though.

I agree.. if that is all the difference the non rs will be good enough. Probably more comfort with 27.2mm seatpost also.

On Grifn vs grifn rs the RS is superior in terms of stiffness around the BB. Hopefully this is not the case with ASTR. The difference in price for frameset is probably big because they bundle seatpost AND new nimbus cockpit with the RS. Usually not included 27.2mm seatposts on frames from them.

What is the experience with the (new) Nimbus cockpit?

Another downside are the fork/handkebar dimensions (or however you call it). It's 1.1/4 instead of the usual 1.1/8.

I suppose that rules out many other nice handlebar options? What would be a good alternative to the stock Nimbus cockpit?

really I missed that in any spec list. 1.1/4 is deal breaker for me. I'm out

Isn't that just the bearing to get space for everything? The fork should be regular Ridley D-shaped so alla cockpits that work with that should work. Or I'm screwed ;)

According to the technical specs it's the headset dimensions.
