Racey Boutique Gravel Frames?
Moderator: Moderator Team
I won't keep spamming this thread with my Lauf but took it out for it's first ride on the weekend. Was 215km on about 70% gravel/fireroads, 25% pavement and 5% trail/singletrack.
I have the Pathfinder Pro 2Bliss in 42 mounted. Also the Elita1 seatpost and Kalloy Uno stem and Prologo Scratch M5 carbon saddle.
I'm very much a road guy so not much experience offroad but the bike rips. The gravel/fireroad riding was smooth, fast and grippy. It also didn't feel sluggish on the road...in fact it was super nice to not be dodging cracks and bumps lol. The only place that was a bit sketch was the trail but it was a really poorly maintained trail...suspension would have been seriously appreciated but I think the bigger issue is that I shouldn't have taken that route.

Looks good! Also looks like it doesn't pick up that much dirt on the frame.
Very tempted.

I almost picked up a dirt cheap MOG on ebay.. luckily someone BIN'd so I didn't have to think about it anymore. I was stuck on the 57deg rake of the stock fork, knowing that I would be putting my 45deg rake and +30mm axle to crown CC invert on it. Was afraid that would be too drastic of a geo change.

The Mog is amazing. If price wasn't a factor for this one, Mog would be a top choice for me!

Frame - Standert Kettensäge
Stem - Enve In-Route Carbon 90mm incl. Enve Computer Mount
Bars - Syncros Creston 1.0X 380mm
BarTape - Cannondale (was cheap and thick)
Pedals - XTR (will switch to titan axle soon)
Wheels - 9Velo GV45 2.0 (wide, high and nice)
Tires - Vittoria Mezcal III TNT G+ 2.0 44mm (tubeless)
Seatpost - ElitaOne 350mm
Bootle cages - Mana (AliExpress)
Saddle - Prologo Scratch M5 Nack Carbon (currently testing different ones)
Groupset - SRAM RED XPLR AXS Wide Disc HRD Flat Mount Gravel 1x13 | Powermeter (165mm crank, 40t)
Brake Disc - Galfer 2x160mm
Current weight 8.49kg, aiming for 8.37kg
Weight optimization next weeks
- 20g titan screws (AliExpress)
- 40g titan pedal axle (Titaniumplanet)
- 60g saddle (prob. AliExpress, got two lying around alrdy)
Still weight is top for aluminium frame and chunky tires and steel spokes.
The Build was quite straightforward. Did 3 rides yet, handles really nice. I do have almost the same position on it as on my SL8 which feels nice. Only saddle is like 1-2cm more forward so that I am slightly more upright which is fine for gravel. Maybe 100mm stem would have fit as well, but on the other hand its a gravel and you want good handling. I can feel the bigger distance from BB to the ground due to big tires, nice on rougher terrain. Bar has significant flare so downhill in the drops very nice, on flat you can still get quite aero in the hoods.
The Weight is a little higher (200g) than expected, so a lighter frame is still in the back of my mind. Hoping for new Crux in 2025. Then maybe one piece cockpit so I might be able to shave off 900g or more. This would give me <7.5kg with 44mm tires and steel spokes (for comofort and repairs)
Not able to upload an image directly, so you got to wait for Instagram pictures
Best Chris
