Anyone make crank arm boots for SRAM Red Cranks
Moderator: Moderator Team
Would really like to protect the ends of the cranks, which will undoubtedly get trashed.

While they "fit" they will be loose. The mtb crankarms are slightly thicker at the pedal end so when you put the boot on its not a direct fit ; mind you it will stay on the crankarm ends when a pedal is installed, but unless the empty space is filled the boots will end up collecting debris and said debris could end up scratching the ends.
If the OP wants to try those boots maybe a decent bodge could be to heli tape the crankarm ends before installing the boots. Should be enough to take up the slack while also providing redundancy
Worldwide Cyclery suggests the Large Raceface boots, part # CR8986

I have not installed them on red cranks, so I personally cannot verify, but i have used other reccomendations from their list and have been happy.

Ok, so I found a solution that is workable. The RaceFace boots fit very well to the end of the Red cranks in terms of snugness. The problem is that the hole for the spindles doesn't quite line up. I removed small amount of material from the top end of the outside hole. This allows the spindle to snug up against the crank arm. I've removed so little material that I don't think the boot will be compromised.
On the hex side, the hole is ever so slightly out of alignment. If you use the wrench to push the plastic slightly to the side, that really isn't much of an issue. I suppose you could always remove material on that small hole as well, but it was easy enough to get the wrench in there to tighten the spindle.

Those are some chonky crank arm boots. The ones I use are thin silicone. Plenty for errant rocks that can be kicked up riding gravel. One bonus is that the inside is a much larger diameter so there is no issue with fitting the hex wrench.
But, as long as they work for you, that's what matters. Nothing worse that rock marks on a high end carbon crankset.

They aren't that big in person. Silicone isn't as durable a material for this purpose as the high density plastic.JMeinholdt wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 2:35 pmThose are some chonky crank arm boots. I wonder if the SRAM Transmission crank boots fit SRAM Red cranks too?

These fit the RED Cranks:

I have it on two bikes with E1 crankarms.

I got a pair of these boots and they fit much better than the older SRAM boots. The holes align almost perfectly, so there is no need to cut them at all. Some juggling was needed with one pair of SRAM Red cranks/boots when installing the pedals, but not with another pair.kervelo wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 4:05 pmI wonder if the SRAM Transmission crank boots fit SRAM Red cranks too?
