Maybe somebody knows - can I use a Black Inc cockpit on the Enve headset & spacers?

Just got my built-up MOG (52cm) finished at it's right about 8kg. I can put together more info if anyone is interested. Only ridden it a bit on the road so far but it's very smooth.

Would be interesting to hear your thoughts and what spec you have to end up at 8kg.

I'm loving it so far, but I've only ridden it on the road (we've had a lot of rain lately and I'm both not wanting to tear up the trails and also I'm not a fan of getting muddy outside of races). My coach and I worked on measuring what would fit me best, so that both eliminated a lot of bikes and helped me feel at home on this.

The only drawback I can think of so far is that the rear might be a bit less forgiving than the front, though I haven't really been working on tire pressure, so less air in there could help. There's a bit of kickback even on roads. The setup there is the Enve seatpost (which has a weird creak at the saddle rails) and a Specialized Power Expert.

The setup is:

SRAM Red XPLR 13sp (which I love)
Enve bar, stem, seatpost
Aforementioned Specialized saddle
Roval Terra CLX wheels
Panaracer Gravelkings
BBInfinite BB

Mine is 8.5kg as it sits with accessories. This build was a hodgepodge of spare parts and some new ones.

It could pretty easily be sub 7kg with some changes.
- cages (31g each)
- sram reverb dropper (~562g)
- enve 4.5 wheels w/ dt240 hubs are such nice wheels but heavy
- full Ti bolt treatment would save some grams
- swap the seat for a superlight would save some grams
- swap the xo1 rd for an xx1 would save some grams
- swap the cassette would save some grams but sacrifice on-road gearing. that 9t adds a lot of usability. The weight calculation here was that the extra cassette weight is less than a 2x setup with FD and another chainring
- of course weighing w/o pedals, cages, and accessories would make for a better vanity number

build

56cm frame/fork + enve hardware + enve provided token headset
titanium set screws filling all the threaded frame inserts
enve stem and wide gravel bar
Bucklos bar tape (no bar plugs required because enve bar has them integrated)
enve 4.5 w/ 40c ramblers + sealant and valves + enve axles
galfer wave 180 / 160 rotors
enve cages (2)
sram red e1 shifters + brakes
sram reverb xplr drop post + sram battery
sram x01 rd + sram battery
sram xx1 chain
ryet 3d carbon rail seat
e13 helix race 9-50 cassette (384g) (sram 10-50 is 355g)
race face nextSL 170mm cranks and spindle + a few spacers
sigeyi axo power meter
absoluteBlack oval 36 ring
shimano xtr spd pedals
Varia radar mount (no radar unit)
Bar mount for outbound lighting light (heavy chunk of metal)
Bar mount little blinky light
enve (k-edge) computer mount

There is some weight in caked dirt spread around on the frame at time of weighing :)

I have new Enduro bearings to replace the headset but havent gotten around to it yet. The enve headset bearings have already gotten notchy. The bottom bracket bearings seem to be holding up better than the headset. If those bearings fail I'll replace with a BBI bb.

I've put a decent number of miles on this bike with both enve 4.5 w/ 40c and g23 w/ 47c. It is extremely road+gravel capable with the 4.5 and 40c rambler combo. With the g23 (this is the lighter wheelset at 1305g) and 47c tire setup it turns into a mini mtb that can soak up a lot more bumps and climb almost anything. Hard washboard dirt roads are hell on my hands with either wheel/tire combo. There is no substitute for actual suspension. I'm going to add some gel pads to the bars when I next rewrap them.

The wide enve bars make for a more natural mountain bike style stance on the bike, but the aero penalty on the road is real. I might go narrower if I were to do it over again, but it isn't worth changing now.

I deliberated between a Lauf Seigla and a MOG. In-frame storage and 2x compatibility combined with some extremely positive prior experiences with the Enve brand swayed me towards Enve. Lauf wouldnt make any component changes for me and I knew the drivetrain was going to be limiting. I wasn't keen on buying new latest greatest stuff I know I would immediately change. I already have a bunch of previous generation SRAM gear so there was an upside to remain in that drivetrain universe for a while longer. I honestly didn't know if I could live with a 1x setup so a MOG w/ 2x support won out. I also happened to have a set of enve wheels sitting in my attic which helped a little. It turns out that I'm pretty happy with this setup and don't foresee a real need for 2x. I DO like the super useful in-frame storage.

I'm very happy with the result. It inhabits a strange space between my full mtb and my road bike. If I could only have one bike, this might be it despite the broad compromises that come with it.

Edit: I finally got around to replacing the headset bearings. Night and day better. I hope the Enduro bearings last basically forever.

Thanks for that (a lot more detailed than mine) breakdown! You have a lot of stuff on there that I didn't when I measured mine (and a dropper post), so that totally makes sense you'd have a half kilo up. And your frame is larger.

I also looked at the Seigla, but was very sad the geometry wouldn't work for me (in a Small). Funny that you could do both okay!
