I am building my first gravel bike. It will be mostly used with 45 to 50 mm tires (i.e., Pirelli Cinturato Gravel M), but I would like the possibility to use also 37/38 mm tires in case I needed to ride mostly on pavement.
Given these requirements, are 25 mm IW rims too wide? I am looking at DT Swiss. G540 and GR531 rims are too heavy, XR rims are rated up to 110kg (which might be a problem in case I wanted to use them for bikepacking), the XM series looks perfect since it is rated up to 120 kg and it is still lighter than the GR531.
DT Swiss XM401 -> 22,5 mm inner width
DT Swiss XM421 -> 25 mm inner width
Is a 25mm rim (IW) too wide for a gravel bike?

25mm will be just fine. I’d even say 25mm internal is narrow for a 50mm tire.

I use a 25mm I'd with everything from a 28 to 45mm tyre.

As others have mentioned it should be fine for gravel tires, and in fact probably optimal for something in the range of 36-48mm.
For most tires a hooked rim will work with tires widths anywhere between 125-225% of the measured inner rim width. So ~32mm tires should work with those 25mm rims no problem, and you can go up to even a 2.2" tire pretty easily.

I have light bicycle WR50s in a hookless 25int width and DT Swiss GR1600 which are hooked 24mm int.
Both are fine with 40mm tyres.
Haven't felt the need to go wider.
The manufacturers of each wheelset spec them as capable of running wider tyres than that.

How big do those Gravelkings measure on your 25mm internal rims? I'm guessing they're SK's? I've been considering the same setup but 41mm is the hard upper limit for tire size on my frame.
