HOOKLESS wheels for 33mm CX tyre
Moderator: Moderator Team
I would skip hookless for cross. The pressures you're gonna run on a 33 tubeless and the consistent cornering is enough that it makes it not a good idea.
For me, the new formula is:
- Rims with hooks no more than a 21mm internal to keep the tire at the 33mm size (I race UCI races) and to allow enough pressure on the rims to keep the tire seated
- Tires with enough sidewall to support cornering. The cotton sidewalls are great, but they tend to collapse at low pressures. ymmv
- Always always always running a tire insert. The tech is to a place now that it's a no-brainer. It doesn't need to be one of the heavy-duty ones. The Vittoria air-liner road was sufficient enough for me last season and they offer basically no disadvantage weight or otherwise.
