Hello all,

Finally need to replace the stock Stan's aluminum wheels on my Ibis Hakka MX (dinged the rim enough that tubeless won't seat; running tubes okay, but worried about lifespan of the rims now).

I was ready to pull the tigger on a Roval Terra CL wheelset but availabiliy is not great. I'd like to hear what experiences people have had with similar weight and performance wheels in that price range or less. I'll be racing some Grasshoppers next year and ride on the trails but don't do big rock gardens (mental and skill levels are the limiting factors).

Thoughts?

The DT Swiss GR1600 or similar are nice wheels for the money.

You do have to be careful with sub 1500 gram wheels as they most of time do not hold up well in the real world of street riding, they also could be flexy while climbing.

Several wheels you might want to look at is the FSA Vision TriMax 30, another decent wheel is from Soul the S4.0, there are a slew of them out there, but these are just two of them, that for the money offer a lot.

Zipp 303S is a good wheel, both on and off road.

FFWD has the Tyro II out, 45mm, hookless, for road and gravel, $1200, and there's a 15% off deal going on now. Lifetime warranty if you're in the US. I have two sets of FFWD wheels that have been great (Ryot77s and F3ADs).

Light Bicycle also makes some really good wheels. For a grand you could get DT240EXP hubs and some nice wide carbon rims, probably lighter than most other brands too. I currently have a set of LB AR56 wheels, and had another set in the past (AR46), both are/were really good.

Yes, I have a lot of wheels.

I second the 303S' for your price point. Carbon, reasonably light, and Zipp has been amazing everytime I've had an issue.

Interested in the FFWD, will have to dig up some reviews. I've been eyeing WR50's for some time now but when i load them up with DT240's + shipping its just a tick under $1500USD. At that point Zipp 303S for $1400 shipped feels like a better deal.
