Xpedo spd pedals require the use of their cleats. Shimano cleats will wear the contact points very quickly and render them useless. It's possible to modify the shimano cleats to be used with the brass colored plates that come with the pedals. Just dremel (grind off) the ends of the mounting pocket on the cleat to make space for the plates and they work fine. You may need to file down the plates a tad to get proper clearance if you use the pivoting version of the shimano cleat.

How have your rene herse tires held up? I don't know what happened but I was descending the other day and my tire blew off my MCFK rim. Not sure there was any puncture (other than to my body...), but first the front wheel exploded and then the rear wheel. Have you had any problems with keeping them on your rims?

Extra layer or two of rim tape shall solve all your issues. Happened to me too.

Excellent photos and beautiful bike.

How are the hurricane ridges doing for you? It looks like there's barely any clearance, but I don't ride in muddy places.

Great clearance with the Hurricane Ridge tyres.

Watch this space though, may have to edit the thread title if new frame comes tomorrow...

Great to hear that you have found a S-Works Crux frame.

Oooooh congrats! Exciting news. And definitely looking forward to hearing your comparison of UPPER vs. Crux - I went through the same debate and went UPPER.

Hi UP / UPPER community

Just recently got my Upper, wanted to attach my GRX group set with 46/30 chainrings to it - which resulted in a scratch because of the sharp edges of the 30 chainring...

What do you think - just a paint scratch and still save to ride?

Thanks!

Ouch!

I would be happy riding with that - it's possibly the thickest section of carbon, and if (very unlikely) failed then your BB would feel spongy first.
I'd still mark and check it regularly. Mark it at both ends, so that if crack develops then you can tell.

I was considering the GRX groupset for mine. Was that pure installer error, or is there a fundamental issue with GRX chainset?

That might be the lightest scratch I've ever seen in that area for the notoriously chain-droppy UP and UPPER. Pretty much every owner of said framesets have had to deal with this issue, so much so that a certain well-respected carbon repair outfit has the picture of the damage on an OPEN as their header image on their site.

You're definitely safe to ride as it looks like it only got through the finish and clear and not down through to the raw carbon. A chain catcher is a must for any FD setups on the OPENs. I learned this the hard way.

Still a brilliant riding frame tho.

Question for those with AXS squeezing 42mm tires on, do you have to run the SRAM Wide FD and Cranks?

Im running a RED AXS front derailleur with 42c and it clears the battery, but just barely.
